Chapter 2

Aiden POV

As we pulled up to the house, Father instructed Aura to run inside to Mom. "Go on, sweetheart. Tell Mom we'll be back for dinner," he said, his tone gentler than usual. Aura beamed, hopping out of the car and sprinting toward the house.

The moment she disappeared inside, Father turned to us. "Get ready. We're heading to the training ground."

Aric and I exchanged a look, a silent acknowledgment of the unspoken competition between us. Training sessions with Father were intense, a proving ground where we could test our limits and showcase our strength.

The pack training ground was a vast expanse, designed for rigorous drills and combat practice. As we arrived, the familiar scents of sweat and earth filled the air, mingling with the faint smell of pine from the surrounding forest. Father led the way, his stride purposeful and commanding.

"Today, we push harder," he announced, his eyes scanning us both. "The Alpha title isn't just given; it's earned. Remember that."

Aric and I nodded, our determination mirrored in each other's eyes. We began with the usual warm-ups, our movements synchronized from years of training together. But today, there was an edge to our actions, a subtle but undeniable drive to outshine the other.

Father watched us closely, his sharp gaze missing nothing. We moved on to sparring, and the tension between us became palpable. Each strike, each block, was not just practice—it was a challenge. A test of who would ultimately prove worthy of the Alpha title.

Despite the intensity, we moved with a fluid grace, our bond as twins evident even in competition. We knew each other's moves, strengths, and weaknesses. But today, I was determined to push past my limits, to show Father—and Aric—that I was ready.

As the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across the training ground, we finally paused, breathing heavily but unbroken. Father nodded in approval, a rare smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"You're both strong," he said, his voice steady. "But remember, strength isn't everything. Leadership, wisdom, and heart—that's what makes a true Alpha."

Aric and I exchanged another glance, understanding the weight of his words. The competition was far from over, but today had been a reminder of what was truly at stake.

We headed back to the house, the quiet night air wrapping around us. The rivalry between us simmered just below the surface, but for now, we were brothers.

As I reached the front door, Alex greeted me with a smile. "You're home!" He put his hands in the air, asking me to pick him up.

I scooped him up with a grin. "Hey, buddy. Did you miss us?"

Alex giggled, wrapping his arms around my neck. "Of course!"

Aric stepped up beside me, a mock frown on his face. "What, it's him today and not me?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at Alex.

Alex giggled again, reaching out to Aric with one hand while still clinging to me. "I missed you both! But Aiden gets first hugs today."

Aric chuckled, ruffling Alex's hair. "Alright, I suppose I can let him have this one. Just this once."

We stepped inside, the warmth of the house enveloping us. The familiar sounds of our family filled the air—Mom's laughter from the kitchen, Aura's excited chatter about her day.

"What's for dinner?" I asked, sitting Alex on the counter.

"Actually, your mom and I are going on a date," Dad answered, a hint of excitement in his voice.
