Chapter 6
Aiden POV
As Monday rolled around, I was up before anyone else, eager to get to school. Aric slept soundly in his bed, completely unaware of my early morning energy.
I made my way into the bathroom, putting in a little extra effort as I got ready. I meticulously styled my hair and ensured my clothes were perfect, wanting to look my best for the day ahead. I knew part of my eagerness stemmed from the chance to see Emily again and continue exploring the connection we had started to build.
As I finished up in the bathroom, I glanced at the clock. Still plenty of time before we needed to leave.
I decided to wake up Aric. I gently pushed him. "Rise and shine!" I said, laughing.
He groaned and rolled over, pulling the blanket tighter around himself. Not one to be deterred, I decided to take more drastic measures. With a mischievous grin, I completely pulled the blankets off him.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, sitting up and glaring at me, his hair a mess. "What's your problem?"
"Come on, man," I said, still laughing. "It's time to get up. We've got school, and I made breakfast."
Aric rubbed his eyes, looking less than thrilled but slowly coming around. "You're way too energetic this morning. What's gotten into you?"
I shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Just feeling motivated, that's all. Now get up before all the bacon's gone."
With a reluctant sigh, Aric swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up, stretching. "Alright, alright. I'm up."
I left him to get ready and headed back downstairs, the smell of breakfast filling the house. A few minutes later, Aric joined me in the kitchen, looking more awake and slightly more agreeable.
As we sat down to eat, Aric gave me a curious look. "Seriously, what's up with you today? You never wake up this early."
I took a bite of my toast, trying to keep my excitement in check. "Just got a lot on my mind. Figured an early start wouldn't hurt."
Aric smirked. "Does this have anything to do with Emily?"
I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at my lips. "Maybe a little. But there's nothing wrong with wanting to be prepared for the day."
Aura caught our conversation, loudly saying, "Emily! As in the new girl Emily!"
Both Aric and I turned towards her, trying to hush her. "Don't," Aric said quickly.
"I will give you anything if you shut up!" I added nervously, glancing at Aric to gauge her reaction.
"Anything?" Aura said, her finger on her lips and a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Yes, anything," I replied, desperate to keep her from making a scene.
Aura paused, considering her options. "Okay, here's what I want: you have to take me to the candy store after school and buy me whatever I want."
I sighed in relief. "Deal. Just keep it quiet, okay?"
Aura grinned triumphantly. "You got it, big brother."
Aric and I sighed in relief, feeling the tension ease.
Mom entered the room, her eyebrows raised. "What is all the commotion about?"
"Nothing," we all said in unison, trying to sound casual.
Mom narrowed her eyes at us, clearly not convinced but deciding to let it go for now. "Alright, you all ready for school?"
