Chapter 5

Aric POV

Alex barged into our room, causing me, Aiden, and Conall to groan in our sleep. Conall had chosen to sleep in the bed with me, and now he was pulling the covers over his head.

"Hey!" I said, grabbing the covers back and pulling hard. Just as I thought I had won, Conall let go, and I fell to the floor with a thud.

"Mom said to get up!" Alex yelled at us, his voice full of morning energy.

Aiden grumbled, burying his face deeper into his pillow. "Alex, it's too early for this."

Conall peeked out from under the covers, a mischievous grin on his face. "Nice move, Aric," he said, clearly enjoying my fall.

I groaned and stood up, rubbing my sore shoulder. "Thanks, Conall."

Alex, undeterred by our protests, continued to bounce around the room. "Come on, get up! Breakfast is ready, and Mom said you need to hurry!"

With a collective sigh, we all slowly got out of bed, stretching and yawning. I shot a look at Conall, who was still chuckling. "Next time, you're on the floor."

He laughed, finally throwing the covers off and standing up. "Fair enough."

As we headed downstairs, the smell of breakfast greeted us, making our stomachs growl. Mom was in the kitchen, flipping pancakes, while Dad read the morning paper at the table.

"Good morning, boys," Mom said with a smile. "Sit down and eat."

We took our seats, and Alex happily joined us, chattering away. Dad came out of his office, walking into the room and kissing Mom on the cheek.

"Ewww! She has cooties!" Alex screamed, closing his eyes and making a face.

Everyone laughed, the lighthearted moment a perfect start to the day. Mom ruffled Alex's hair, smiling. "Oh, hush, you."

Dad chuckled, taking his seat at the table. "How did everyone sleep?"

"Great, except for Aric falling out of bed," Conall said with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help but smile. "Thanks to you."

"Sounds like an eventful night," Dad said, his tone amused. "Aunt Lilly called, and it looks like the girls are staying the whole weekend. So, Conall, you're more than welcome to stay, but I expect you to join the boys' training."

Conall grinned, clearly excited by the prospect. "No problem, Uncle Alaric. I'm in."

"Good," Dad replied with a nod. "We'll make sure you get the full experience."

As we finished breakfast, the room buzzed with energy and anticipation for the weekend. Mom began cleaning up, and we all pitched in to help.

Once the table was cleared, Dad looked at all of us. "Go change and meet me outside."

We ran upstairs, eager to get started. "What are we going to do?" Conall asked as we changed into our running gear.

"Running," Aiden and I said in unison.

"It's so weird when y'all do that," Conall replied, shaking his head with a smile.

Downstairs, Dad stood in the back holding a stopwatch. Conall and I jumped with adrenaline, ready to start, while Aiden seemed distracted, his mind obviously occupied by thoughts of Emily.

Dad's voice boomed with authority, capturing all of our attention. "Now, my boys know the routine of this run." I tuned Dad out as he explained the route to Conall, making sure he had a fair chance of keeping up.
