Chapter 4

Aiden POV

As we reached school, relieved today was Friday, Dad said his goodbyes to us. Aric, Conall, and I watched as Emily and Rose, hand in hand, ran towards their school building.

"Talk about best friends for life," I chuckled.

"Yeah, I believe Aura is supposed to come to our house tonight for a sleepover. That's what Mom said," Conall replied.

"Oh good, maybe you can come over to get away from the girls?" I suggested with a grin.

Conall laughed, shaking his head. "Sounds like a plan. It'll be nice to have a break from all their giggles and secrets."

Aric nodded, a smirk playing on his lips. "Yeah, a guy's night sounds perfect. We could use some downtime after everything that's happened."

As we headed towards our classrooms, breaking off in our separate ways, I saw Emily standing by the lockers. She was wearing a blue floral dress, her long blonde hair catching the light. Her eyes, a striking green, seemed to hold an entire universe within them.

It felt like my wolf pulled me towards her, a magnetic force that I couldn't quite explain. I brushed it off, convincing myself it was just because she was pretty.

But as I passed by, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more, something I couldn't yet understand. I made a mental note to keep an eye on her, just in case. For now, though, I focused on getting through the school day and looking forward to the plans we had for the evening.

As I reached my desk in class, I took the seat in the back, pulling out my binder.

"Hey, can I sit with you?" My heart fluttered as I looked up to meet familiar green eyes.

"Yes, of course," I smiled at her, turning on my charm.

"Aiden, right?" she asked, her voice soft and curious.

"Yeah, that's me," I replied, feeling a little flustered.

She nodded, sitting down next to me. "I'm surprised you and Aric don't have the same schedule?"

I leaned back in my chair, a grin spreading across my face. "We got in trouble for confusing the teacher constantly, so they changed our schedules." I laughed, remembering some of the more entertaining pranks we'd pulled.

Emily laughed too, her eyes sparkling. "Must be nice to have a twin."

"It is," I admitted. "We've always got each other's backs, even when we drive each other crazy."

She smiled at me, and I felt that magnetic pull again, stronger this time. "I bet it's fun."

"Yeah, it has its moments," I said, my gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than necessary. "But I think it's the same with close friends, you know? Having someone you can always count on."

Emily nodded, her expression thoughtful. "Yeah, I get that. It's just... different, I guess."

The teacher started the lesson, and we turned our attention to the front of the class. But even as I tried to focus, I couldn't help but steal glances at Emily, wondering what it was about her that made my wolf so restless.

I wondered if Aric felt the same way. But I couldn't let anything distract me from my alpha training. I pushed her to the back of my mind, forcing my wolf to let it go.

As the lesson progressed, I focused on the task at hand, taking notes and participating in discussions. I couldn't afford to let my attention waver, especially with everything going on. Being a future Alpha meant staying disciplined, staying sharp, and not letting anything—or anyone—get in the way.
