While we were on the way to the Country Club, Colton got a call on his cell phone and he answered it through the car's bluetooth.

"Hey, what's up?" he asked, as he turned a corner too sharp, making me hold onto the handle above my head to steady myself.

"Not much. I was just thinking about you," I heard Caitlyn's voice say through the car speakers.

"Oh yeah? And what were you thinking?" he asked.

"I don't know," she said with an exhale. "I was just wondering why you haven't called me lately. Are you starting to forget about me?" she asked in a sad, pouty voice.

He scoffed. "You're the one that asked for space and said you wanted to try dating other people. I'm just giving you what you asked for."

He looked over at me and rolled his eyes, shaking his head.

"I know. I just didn't think you'd really listen to me," she whined. "How are you and Sydney are getting along?"

"Really good. Why? Are you gettin' jealous?" he asked with a laugh, glancing over at me with a side eye and a hint of a smile, like he was just teasing her.

"OF SYDNEY?! HA?!" she said, busting out laughing and my smile slowly faded away and my eyes narrowed.

After waiting for her to stop laughing for several seconds, Colton cleared his throat and laughed awkwardly before saying, "Hey. Ummm. Just so you know, you're on speakerphone."

Her laughing instantly stopped and she asked in a worried tone, "Is Sydney there with you?"

"Yeah."

"Hi Caitlyn," I grumbled.

There was silence for a few seconds, before she said, "Oh, I ummm, I knew you were probably with him listening in. That's why I said that. I thought it would make you laugh."

She was such a bad liar. She didn't sound convincing at all.

"Yeah, sure," I said, letting out an exhale.

"Awww Sydney. Don't be mad. You know I love you like a sister," she said in a high pitched, fakely sweet voice. "Speaking of which, we need to get the girls together and have a hang out soon. I feel like we haven't seen you in forever!"

"Yeah. We should," I told her half-heartedly.

Then Colton took the exit onto the highway towards downtown Seattle.

"So what are you guys up to right now?" Caitlyn asked.

"We're on our way to the country club to have lunch with my parents," Colton told her. "When my Mom heard we were dating, she insisted I bring her to lunch. You know how she is when she gets an idea in her head. She won't let it go until it happens.

"I didn't meet your parents til we had been dating for like six months, and they want to meet her after only a week?" Caitlyn asked, sounding surprised and a little jealous.

"Yeah well, it's different with Sydney. My parents already know her from when we were best friends for years."

"Yeah," Caitlyn scoffed. "I guess."

"Hey, we ummm, we actually just got to the country club so I'm gonna have to let you go. I'll talk to you later."

"Oh, okay. Bye," she said quietly, sounding sad.

"Bye," he told her, reaching out and clicking the red hang up button on his car's screen.

We weren't actually at the country club yet. Apparently he just said that cause he wanted to get off the phone with her.
