A minute later Colton texted back and said, ''I have no idea what you're talking about. Someone paid for your trip? All of it?'

I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. Somehow I knew he was going to deny it.

'I know it was you. I haven't told anybody else.'

'Well maybe your Mom told somebody. I don't know, but I swear it wasn't me.'

'C'mon Colton. Tell me the truth. It was you wasn't it?'

'No, I swear. I was thinking about it, but apparently somebody beat me to it. You must have a secret admirer.'

'Or somebody really wants me to be on that trip for some reason. Maybe it was one of my friends.'

'Yeah maybe. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. My Dad talked to Mr. Tate, the guy that owns the country club, and he said you're hired. You can start tomorrow.'

'Ummm. Don't I need to go through an interview first?'

'No, my Mom and Dad vouched for you. Mr. Tate said to be there at 5:00 and bring your slip that shows you passed the lifeguard certification course and the job is yours. It's a done deal.'

'Ok. Wow. I didn't expect that. Thank you.'

'You're welcome.'

Wow. I was having really good luck today, except for getting that detention. I got a new car. a new job, and my Senior trip was paid for. Hopefully this wasn't all a dream, because it seemed too good to be true. I never had good luck like that.

As I got to the front of the lunch line, I shoved my phone into my back pocket and grabbed a tray, putting a plate of spaghetti, breadsticks and salad onto it. The lunch lady at the cash register smiled before swiping my card that gave me free school lunch for being low income.

Then I carried my tray across the cafeteria and sat down at the table with Caitlyn, Dominique and Jasmine. The three of them always packed their lunches because they thought the cafeteria food was disgusting. I never understood that, because I thought it was delicious. Most of the time it was the only substantial thing I had to eat all day.

"Have you heard anything from Gavin yet?" Dominique asked Caitlyn as she lifted her Starbucks mocha latte and took a drink from it.

Caitlyn just rolled her eyes and grumbled, "Seriously Dominique? Do you HAVE to remind me about him EVERY time we talk? Just drop it already. The Gavin thing is over."

Dominique looked offended and scoffed, saying, "Fine. I'll drop it."

Caitlyn was obviously in a bad mood. She got really snippy with us whenever she was having a bad day, even more than normal.

There was an awkward silence for a minute before Dominique looked across the table at me and asked, "So Sydney, how are things going with you and Takashi?"

I shrugged my shoulders and let out an exhale. "I don't know. He was actually being flirty earlier, but he also pretty much called me dumb, so I don't know if he's starting to like me or not. He's so confusing."

Caitlyn was pushing her broccoli around her plate with a fork, with her chin resting on her hand and her bottom lip sticking out, like she was pouting. Finally she broke the silence.

"So I ummm, I was actually gonna tell you guys that I'm thinking about getting back with Colton," she said, looking down at her tray and avoiding eye contact with us.

The three of us looked around at each other, and we all looked surprised to hear her say that.

"You mean at the end of the month, right?" Jasmine asked with a raised eyebrow.
