**** Caitlyn's Point of View ****
On Monday morning I sat under the big oak tree in front of Lake Forest Academy with Dominique and Jasmine, like we always did, but things felt a little tense between us for some reason.
"Why'd you leave the party so early?" Jasmine asked me.
"Because, Sydney was being a total bitch. Did you know she's been secretly recording our conversations for years so she can blackmail us with them?"
"What do you mean us?" Dominique asked. "I thought she only did that to you."
I scoffed. "Do you really think she didn't do the same thing to you guys? I'm sure she has recordings of you too. We seriously can't trust her. She's been playing like she's all sweet and innocent this whole time, but she totally conned us all. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to use the evidence she has against us to blackmail our parents into giving her money. I bet that's the real reason why her Mom enrolled her at this school, because it's full of really rich people. You know what they say, 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
Jasmine and Dominique looked at each other like they weren't convinced. Sydney had been trying to turn them against me and it looked like it was working. They were so gullible.
"She has you guys fooled," I said, shaking my head. "But she doesn't fool me for a second. I know exactly what she's doing."
"Well speak of the devil. Here she comes now," Dominique said, gesturing with a nod of her head behind me.
I slowly turned around to see Sydney walking up the sidewalk toward the school, with Colton's arm around her shoulders and a big smile on her face, both of them were laughing and looking really happy. She was wearing Colton's letter jacket. Seeing that made me narrow my eyes and grit my teeth together.
I could feel my anger rising. She thinks she won.
"Can you believe she actually thinks Colton likes her for real? He's obviously just using her to make me jealous and get back at me for hooking up with somebody else after we broke up."
Dominique and Jasmine looked at each other and I could tell they were hiding something.
"What aren't you telling me?!" I asked them.
They hesitated before Dominique let out a sigh and said, "Saturday night after the birthday party, they ummm ......"
"They WHAT?!" I yelled, getting impatient. "Spit it out already."
Jasmine cut in and said, "Sydney told us they slept together and he told her he loved her. He ummm, he actually invited her to go backpacking across Europe with him next year."
Hearing that made my blood instantly run cold. Colton never invited me to go to Europe with him when we were dating, and we dated for four years! Why in the world would he invite her?
"That ungrateful bitch!" I said angrily. "She has the nerve to steal my boyfriend right out from under me after everything I've done for her! I made her! If it wasn't for me she'd still be a poor, little nerd sitting in the cafeteria alone with no friends! Nobody would even know who she is!"
Jasmine and Dominique didn't say anything. They just sat there, looking down in silence. I was starting to wonder whose side they were on.
"Hey you," a deep voice said from beside me and I looked over to see Takashi Chang plopping down onto the grass beside me.
"Hey," I said with an exhale, shoving my sunglasses on.
I didn't even really like Takashi. He was attractive back when he was the forbidden fruit that I wasn't allowed to like because Sydney liked him. It was kind of exciting, having to sneak around with him behind her back, but now I was getting bored.
