"What do you mean it was Caitlyn?" I asked.

Colton took a deep breath in and let it out before saying, "Caitlyn's the reason me and you stopped being friends back in eighth grade."

I scrunched my eyebrows at him. "Why? What did she do?"

"When me and her started dating, she asked me why I was your only friend. I said that's just how it had always been. She told me it wasn't healthy and that you really needed to make friends with other girls because you'd have more in common with them. She offered to bring you into her friend group because she thought you'd be happier that way."

He shrugged his shoulders and looked down, saying, "I thought she was wrong, but I told her she could try it and see how it goes. Then after you became friends with her and her friends, you were going out to parties, having sleepovers at their houses, and being more sociable. Caitlyn told me it was proof that she was right, I had been holding you back and you were better off without me. I figured she was right because you did seem a lot happier."

I shook my head. "No, I wasn't. I was devastated when you stopped talking to me. On the outside I might have looked happy, but inside I was miserable. I missed you so much and I kept trying to figure out what I had done wrong. I'll admit, I was excited at first to be invited into their group because they were so popular, but I never really felt like I belonged with them. I always wondered in the back of my mind why they became friends with me because we were so different. Now it all makes sense."

I looked up at him and said, "And I know exactly why Caitlyn did all that. It wasn't because she thought I'd be happier with female friends. I guarantee it was because she was jealous of how close me and you were and she came up with that story as an excuse to separate us."

Colton stood there thinking about it for a few seconds, before asking, "Do you really think that's why she did it?"

"Yes!" I laughed. "That's the kind of shit she does. She manipulates people and plays mind games with them to get what she wants. I've seen her do it over and over. Trust me. She's NOT the sweet, innocent person she tries to pretend to be. She's the most conniving, ruthless, schemer I've ever met."

"What has she done to make you say that?" he asked with scrunched eyebrows.

"Ummm, well for starters, she found out the cheer coach was having an affair, so she blackmailed her to get the head cheerleader position, taking it away from a girl that was way better and actually deserved it. Then she made a spotter drop her on purpose and pretended her ankle was twisted because of it, just to get that spotter kicked off the team because she didn't like that she was prettier than her. She even wore crutches for a week to get sympathy from the coach, but it was all fake. Ummm, what else? Oh, Caitlyn convinced her cousin that her boyfriend was cheating on her just because she thought he was too ugly for her and it was embarrassing. She also snuck into Mrs. Rivera's desk and erased Natasha Birch's name from her test and wrote her own on it so she could pass Spanish and not get kicked off of the cheer team. She put Natasha's name on her own test and she ended up getting an F. She got grounded for a whole month and even had to miss her best friend's birthday party because of it and Caitlyn thought it was hilarious. She didn't feel bad at all."

"Are you serious? She really did all that?" Colton asked with a raised eyebrow, looking surprised.

"Yeah," I nodded, letting out a sigh. "You might have dated her for four years, but I don't think you know her as well as you think you do. She does a good job hiding that side of herself from people."

Colton shook his head in disbelief.

"There's plenty more stories like that too. You wouldn't believe some of the things she's done. I could write a book and it'd probably fly off the shelves and become a bestseller," I laughed.
