"Blind about what?" I asked with a laugh.
Jasmine let out an exhale and shook her head. "If a guy goes through that much effort for you, that means he likes you."
I scoffed and then laughed.
"Colton Crawford definitely does NOT like me, not like THAT anyway. We're just close because we used to be best friends for so many years."
They gave each other the side eye and I said, "Stop looking at each other like that! He doesn't like me. I can promise you that," I laughed.
Jasmine looked at me, thinking for a few seconds before asking, "What about you? Do you like him?"
That question caught me off guard and I was flustered and lost for words.
Dominique gasped and said, "You do! Sydney! You like him!"
My face flushed bright red and I shook my head, "No, I don't," I said defensively.
"Yeah, good try," Dominique laughed. "We can see right through you. You're a terrible liar."
I cringed as I asked hesitantly, "Is it that obvious?"
"Yes!" they both said at the same time, laughing.
I let out an exhale, looking down at my hands and shrugging my shoulders. "Yeah well, even if I do like him, it doesn't matter. He'd never like somebody like me."
"I mean, it's a long shot for sure, but how do you know if you don't try?" Jasmine asked me.
I looked at her like she had three heads. "Are you serious? I don't have to try to know it's never gonna happen. Takashi was already out of my league. Colton Crawford isn't even in the same universe!" I laughed.
"Then you'll just have to build yourself a rocketship," Jasmine said with a smile and a wink.
**** One Hour Later ****
"Let's welcome to the field, your Lake Forest Academy Tigers!" the announcer's voice boomed through the loud speakers and the student section went wild, standing up and screaming, and several people rang loud cowbells.
The pep band played the school fight song in the background as the football players ran out onto the field, with their helmets off, raising them high in the air above their heads.
The cheerleaders ran out onto the field behind them, shaking their black and orange pom poms and doing cartwheels, flips and backhand-springs as they made their way over to the sideline in front of the bleachers where we were sitting.
Caitlyn was front and center, leading the group in the cheer and then she got lifted up into the air on top of a guy's hand, balancing on one leg with her other leg stretched straight up beside her. She hopped and switched legs before doing a spin and landing on the ground again.
"Your Tigers, led by Senior Quarterback Colton Crawford, are hoping for a third consecutive state championship this year, which would be a first in Lake Forest history!" the announcer yelled loudly and the crowd went wild.
Colton stood on the sideline behind the bench, taking a drink from a huge orange water bottle as he talked to the coach. He glanced up towards the stands and it looked like he was searching for someone. Then I saw Caitlyn wave at him and he gave her a forced smile and a nod of his head before facing his back to her.
