I swallowed hard, looking down at Colton's outstretched hand and trying to get up the courage to tell him I wanted to be more than friends. This was the perfect opportunity to do it. My heart started beating faster and I swallowed hard, raising my eyes and looking into his.

"Are you just gonna leave me hangin'?" he asked with a laugh.

That snapped me out of it and I shook my head.

"No, of course not. Sorry, I guess I just spaced out for a second," I laughed lightly. "I promise," I said, slipping my hand into his and shaking it, "that I'll never let anything come between us ever again."

I had taken the word friendship out of my promise so it wasn't a lie, but I was still kicking myself for chickening out and not telling him how I felt. Something was holding me back. It just didn't feel like the right time.

Colton and I sat up on that water tower and talked for hours that night. It reminded me of how we used to sit in our closets and talk all night on the phone when we were kids.

The next morning, the sound of birds chirping woke me up and I blinked my eyes open, looking around and realizing I had fallen asleep on Colton's chest and he had his arm around me. I remembered that we had scooted back and leaned against the water tower last night as we talked and I must have gotten so tired I fell asleep.

I closed my eyes again, not wanting to get up yet and just enjoying laying there on his warm chest, listening to his heart beat. I may never have that opportunity ever again, so I wanted to cherish it. I dozed off again for a little while, but eventually he woke up and woke me up too.

We both sat up stretching and I looked over at his bed head and smiled. He was the only person I knew that could make bedhead look hot. I raised my hand and smoothed a couple of pieces down for him and he smiled, reaching up and doing the same for me. Feeling his gentle touch on my hair sent a shiver across my arm.

My eyes looked into his and then I glanced down at his lips. He glanced down at mine too and I held my breath.

Suddenly my phone dinged loudly, ruining the moment and we both looked away. I pulled my phone out and saw a text.

'Hey it's Akari. What time are you coming over to start on your makeover? I've got a full spa day planned and it's gonna take all day.'

I texted back: 'I need to run home and grab my dress and then I'll be there. Thanks again for doing this. I really appreciate it.'

'You're welcome. I'm so excited! See you soon!'

I looked over at Colton and said, "We need to get back to the house. I've gotta pick up my dress and go see Akari so we can start on my makeover."

"Alright," he said, standing up and then he held out his hand and helped me to my feet. He stood there for a minute with his hands in his pockets and acted like he wanted to say something else, but when he didn't, I walked over to the ladder and motioned for him to go first.

When we got back to his Jeep, he took the doors off because it was a beautiful day with the sun shining. We didn't get too many of those kind of days in Seattle. It was usually rainy and cloudy. It felt like the sunshine was a sign that it was going to be a good day. I was excited about finally getting a makeover and seeing everyone's reaction to it at my birthday party, especially Colton's.

When we got back to the house I ran up to my room and grabbed the dress before rushing back out the door.

When I got to Takashi's house and rang the bell, Takashi opened the door and looked surprised to see me.
