"Oh yeah? Prove it then. Give her a kiss on the lips," John said with narrowed eyes, daring Colton with a smirk on his face, and I knew him well enough to know that Colton never backed down from a dare.
I was suddenly struck with panic and my mind raced to come up with an excuse for why I couldn't kiss him that his friends would believe. I could pretend I got stung by a bee and run away from the table screaming, or I could say I had an emergency phone call from my Mom that I had to answer. I could ......
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when I looked over and realized Colton was leaning in towards me. I scrunched my eyebrows at him, wondering what he was doing. My eyes looked into his and before my brain could even process what was happening, his hands had cupped the sides of my face and the next thing I knew, his lips were pressed against mine.
My eyes widened and I was frozen in shock. Colton Crawford's lips were touching my lips. Was this really happening right now? Apparently it was and I was stunned.
As he held his lips on mine and the initial shock wore off, my eyes gradually closed and my entire body felt flushed, like my skin was on fire. When he pulled back from the kiss and looked into my eyes, my heart was pounding and my breath was shallow. I glanced down at his lips and then back into his eyes, searching them. Did that really just happen or did I hallucinate?
The loud whistles and cheers coming from all the football players sitting around us suddenly broke me out of the trance I was under. I rubbed the back of my neck and laughed awkwardly, feeling my cheeks burning from embarrassment as I looked around the table and saw fifteen sets of eyes on me.
Colton leaned in close and whispered in my ear, "Hopefully that will erase any doubt they have."
"Ummm, yeah," I laughed, still in shock. I couldn't believe he really just did that. I was kinda freakin' out about it, but I was trying to play it off like everything was fine.
I was thankful when the topic of conversation suddenly changed to football and the guys started going over their strategy for the game they had coming up on Friday, forgetting all about me and Colton. Judging from the glares I was still getting from their girlfriends, they hadn't forgotten so easily.
Colton didn't seem to be affected by our kiss at all. He was laughing and joking around with his friends like nothing happened, while I was sitting there with my mind racing, freaking out.
A few minutes later a waitress came to our table carrying several huge pizzas and Colton grabbed a couple slices and put them on my plate for me, before getting a couple for himself.
I whispered, "Thank you," with my head down. I couldn't bring myself to look at him right now. I just stared down at my pizza and ate it in silence.
All I could think about was how mad Caitlyn was gonna be about us kissing. I had seen what she did to people when they got on her bad side and I didn't want to be on the receiving end of that.
"Hey ummm, can I talk to you for a minute? In private?" I asked Colton in an upbeat voice, so no one would suspect anything was wrong.
"Sure babe," he said with a smile, leaning over and kissing my cheek. I gave him a forced smile, laughing awkwardly as I stood up and dropped my napkin down onto my plate.
I took ahold of his hand and pulled him towards the bathrooms on the other side of the restaurant, past the long aisles of crowded tables. I checked to make sure the coast was clear before grabbing his letter jacket and pulling him inside the ladies bathroom with me and locking the door behind us.
I turned to face him before smacking him hard in the chest.
"What the hell was that?!" I yelled.
"What was what?!" he asked, scrunching his eyebrows and looking confused.
