Maybe They Were Right

It was Monday morning and the kids were extra hyper coming in this morning. Karina already knew that today was going to be rough cause hyper kids mean their attention span was extra short today. Royalty and Chris walked up both smiling making Karina smile.

"Good morning Royalty and Chris." Karina said.

"Good morning Ms.Wright." They said at the same time making Karina laugh. Chris gave Royalty a hug and a kiss and she ran into the room. Karina saw Royalty running around showing people her hair and smiled.

"Look Chris." He peeked in the class and saw Royalty showing off her hair making him laugh.

"Yea she my daughter alright." They both laughed.

"How was y'all's weekend?"

"It was good. Rested and did some work. The usual. How was yours?"

"It was actually really good. Didn't have many walk ins Saturday after Royalty's appointment so I had time to relax."

"You know what...now that you mention it, you do look relaxed today." They both laughed at the stupid comment.

"Whatever Chris, I will see you later." Chris said goodbye and walked away. "Alright sit down everyone so we can get started."

The day was going by fast which made Karina happy. As she sat in her classroom eating and posting pictures of recent hairstyles she did, Royalty and one of the recess coaches knocked on the door.

"Hey Coach. What's wrong?"

"Royalty got into a little scuffle with a student at recess." Karina looked shocked at a crying Royalty.

"Are you serious? What happened?"

"Royalty said one of the other students called her ugly so Royalty pushed her down pretty rough causing the girl to cry." Karina sighed.

"Okay, thank you coach." He nodded and Royalty just stood there crying softly. "Come here Royalty." Royalty slowly walked to her and Karina grabbed some tissue and gave it to Royalty so she could wipe her nose and face. "I want to hear what happened from you."

"We were playing- and- I was showing everyone my hair- and Tia said my hair was ugly and I said no it wasn't and then she said I was ugly- so I pushed her while she was running away- and she hit the floor hard." Royalty cried some more. Tia was also a student in her class and she didn't understand why Tia wasn't brought in too for saying the mean things she said.

"Violence isn't okay Royalty. I know what Tia said hurt your feelings. I understand that. However, i'm sure you hurt her feelings too when you pushed her down." Royalty just stood there looking at her feet. "Look at me Royalty." Royalty looked up at her and Karina grabbed the tissues and wiped her tears and nose. "You know what my mom told me when I was a little girl and people used to pick on me?"

"What?" She said softly.

"She would say Karina Wright...girl don't you know you are fearfully and wonderfully made! God made you in my tummy and when he was done he said look at that masterpiece." Royalty and Karina giggled at Karina imitating her mother's southern accent. "So I'm going to tell you the same thing pretty girl. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And the next time someone tries to tell you different, you just think back to those words, okay?" Royalty smiled and nodded her head. The rest of the kids came in, including Tia and Karina made her come to her.

Karina talked to Tia and Tia admitted to calling Royalty ugly. She also said Royalty didn't push her that hard. She just lost balance and fell when Royalty touched her. Karina made them apologize to each other and she told them they couldn't just chill this week while everyone else does. They had to do homework with each other before school ended and turn it in together. Karina didn't know if Coach told the principal or not so she decided to not worry about it cause the two were already chatting and talking to each other.

School had ended and Chris pulled up early today to pick up Royalty. Karina walked Royalty to the car and helped her in. He usually gets out and comes to speak but since he was early today, he didn't want to draw any attention.

"Wassup RoRo! Everybody like your hair today?!"

"Yes! I think they gon try to get their hair like this too." Karina and Chris laughed.

"I will see y'all later." Karina yelled and she walked away.

Royalty hummed along to her dad's music as they drove home.

"How was school today?" Chris asked.

"It was good!" Royalty said, not mentioning her little incident that happened at recess.

"That's good. What you want for dinner?"

"Pizza!" Chris nodded and had his assistant pick up pizza for them. Once they got home, Chris helped Royalty with her homework and then they ate. Both were tired from their day so they took their showers and got in the bed and immediately fell asleep.
