Love is so lovely, isn't it Mr. Daredevil?"

It's become common for you to gush about your relationship with him.

You're laying on the couch kicking your feet back and forth.

"I'll have to take your word for it." He chuckles.

"It's like a big ball of gummy bears. Then when you finally sink your teeth into it, it's nothing but sweet gooey yumminess."

The analogy seems a bit messy to him, but there's obviously a bias given how often you eat those snacks.

"Your boyfriend must be a great guy."

"The greatest." You hum.

You're still very much in dreamland.

"We made out on the couch, it was glorious. I never realized how big Matt's hands were until now."

He shifted, glancing down at his palm. It was a bit awkward now listening to you give a play by play of your little session.

"Sounds fun."

There was really no right way to respond, at least not from his perspective. He heard you shift on the couch, and now you were facing him. He turned.

"What's the matter?"

"Is there someone that you love Mr. Daredevil."

That question made him pause. There were in fact a handful of people that he did care about most in his life. You and Foggy were at the very top of that list. In the past it felt like he was only needed for his capabilities. Stick wanted him for some ideal of a war that he claimed was coming. Then Elektra tried to turn his darkness against him. Break him down, consume him so he'd become like her. Untethered. Unfeeling to anything that wasn't in her best interest.

With Foggy, he just wanted a friend. He didn't care that he was blind. He just enjoyed his company, his value as a person and not a weapon.

With you, everything just felt..right. You were different, like him, but you still found a reason to smile. Right now you're entertaining his company even though you have no idea of his true identity. It's clear your trust in him stemmed from what he'd done for you, but even so, when he came back you could have just ended it.

Thanked him and let him be on his way. He would have easily accepted it. But you welcomed him. You admired what he did and you were always checking to ensure that he was okay. Even now you're making the inquiry because you believe that love is something everyone should have. Even someone as broken as him.

Maybe that's when the realization came.

"There is someone that I care about. I love her."

He could tell that you were smiling.

"Oh my goodness!! You have to tell her!"

You jumped right off the couch, rushing over to him, grabbing his hands. The contact was a bit startling, but then he found his head lowering.

"You're amazing Mr. Daredevil! I'm sure she feels the same. You should tell her."

With all the help he'd given you, of course you wanted nothing more than for him to experience the same happiness. He was smiling at you, but there was sadness in it.

"I don't think it's that simple. I think she might be..in love with someone else."

His words had your smile dropping immediately and he felt horrible for being the cause of it. His words weren't entirely a lie. He knew it. You care about Matt Murdock, not Daredevil. The second you found out, there was no telling what would be the reaction.

He'd gotten in too deep.

There was no going back. If he just disappeared out of the blue, maybe that would solve the problem, but he knew that it would hurt you. You would never stop worrying. If he wanted to be happy, he would have to choose the truth and live with the aftermath and consequences that came with them.

"I'm sorry."

Your head lowered, and you released his hands, now feeling terrible for even bringing up the topic. This entire time you were going on about how happy you were when he was going through such a tough situation.

"It's alright, sometimes it's like that. Don't feel sad."

"How can I not, we're supposed to be happy together. I want you to love, love too!"

You sound a bit childish, but you don't care. He just takes your shoulders and you look up.

"I'd like to think that someday, it'll all work out. I haven't given up yet."

The statement brings back a small spark.

"You're right. You shouldn't kick the bucket yet. Maybe she doesn't actually like the other guy. I mean look at you, she has no idea what she's missing out on. Let's just go take out the other guy so you can have her to yourself!"

He couldn't stop the laughter.

"While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I don't think that would be the right thing to do."

"Right, right, sorry got ahead of myself for a second. Unless you change your mind. Just say the word, I got you."

He smiles.

"I'll keep that in mind."

You really are one of a kind.
