As lunchtime approached, Morgana led her group of Slytherins, with Anthony joining her, through the bustling corridors towards the Great Hall. The anticipation of the meal added a spring to their step, and their voices mingled with the general chatter echoing through the stone hallways. Upon reaching the grand entrance, the doors swung open, revealing a scene of organized chaos. The long tables were filled with students from all houses, animatedly discussing their morning classes and upcoming assignments.
The Great Hall was a feast for the senses. The tantalizing aroma of roasted chicken, fresh bread, and hearty soups filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of pumpkin juice and various desserts. The sound of clinking cutlery and lively conversation created a comforting din, the kind that only a large group of people can generate. Enchanted candles floated overhead, casting a warm, flickering light that danced across the students’ faces and added to the welcoming atmosphere.
Morgana and her friends scanned the room, their eyes quickly finding Neville and Hermione at the Hufflepuff table, just as agreed upon at breakfast. Neville’s inviting wave was all the added encouragement they needed to join them. As the group made their way over, the mix of a Gryffindor and Slytherins drew curious glances from other students. It wasn’t often that such a diverse group gathered together, especially at such an early stage in their Hogwarts journey.
“Hey, Morgana! Anthony! Come join us!” Neville called out, his face lighting up with a welcoming smile. His genuine warmth was a stark contrast to the usual wariness between houses, setting a positive tone for the gathering.
Hermione, seated beside him, also greeted them warmly. “I hope your mornings went well. Let us introduce you to some of the Hufflepuffs.” Her enthusiasm was contagious, and it helped ease any lingering tension.
The group settled in, with Morgana taking a seat beside Hermione and Anthony sitting next to Neville. Draco, Theo, Daphne, Blaise, Pansy, Vincent, Gregory, and Millicent found spots around the table, the table's initial wariness giving way to curiosity and open-mindedness. The Hufflepuffs eventually welcomed them with warm smiles and friendly nods.
“These are my housemates,” Neville began, gesturing to the students around him. “This is Hannah Abbott, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Ernie Macmillan, and Susan Bones.” Each name was accompanied by a wave or a nod from the respective Hufflepuff.
Everyone exchanged friendly greetings, and soon the table was filled with animated conversations. The mix of Slytherins, Hufflepuffs, a Gryffindor, and even a Ravenclaw created a lively atmosphere. Each student shared stories and laughed together, the usual house boundaries dissolving in the face of shared experiences and newfound friendships.
“I heard about your Potions class this morning,” Hermione said to Morgana, her eyes sparkling with interest. “It sounds like you all did incredibly well.”
Morgana nodded, a smile playing on her lips. “It was a good start to the year. Snape was surprisingly complimentary. He even awarded points.”
Draco smirked. “That’s a rare occurrence. Enjoy it while it lasts. Snape's compliments are about as common as a tame Hungarian Horntail.”
As they continued their meal, the camaraderie between the houses grew stronger. Anthony and Neville found common ground in their shared love of Herbology, discussing different magical plants and their uses. Hermione and Daphne discussed their excitement for upcoming classes, particularly Transfiguration and Charms.
Once lunch was over, the group gathered their belongings and headed out for their next class: Charms. The corridors were bustling with students, the sound of footsteps echoing off the stone walls. The excitement of the first week of school was palpable, and the group’s conversation flowed easily as they walked, the bonds they were forming growing stronger with each step.
