As Morgana and Anthony made their way through the grand staircase, deep in conversation, the structure suddenly shifted beneath their feet. The stairs moved swiftly, depositing them directly onto the third floor before retreating away, leaving them stranded.
They waited for fifteen minutes, but the stairs did not return. It became clear that they had no choice but to move forward.
"Great," Anthony muttered, looking around the deserted corridor. "This is too obvious. Someone wants us here."
Morgana glanced back at the stairs, now distant and immobile. "It's a blatant manipulation," she agreed, frowning. "No way to go but forward."
"Guess we deal with it later," Anthony said.
With determination, they proceeded down the dark and dreary corridor. The walls were covered in grime and cobwebs, the air thick with neglect. Eventually, they came across a singular door, strikingly clean and bright against the filth surrounding it.
Anthony tried the handle, finding it locked. He looked at Morgana with a smirk. "Any chance you’ve got a spell in your arsenal that could open this door?"
Morgana tapped her chin playfully. "Let me see," she said, before pointing her finger into the air and exclaiming, "Ah-ha, I have just the thing!"
With a flourish, she cast a wandless Alohomora. The lock clicked open, and Anthony feigned overjoyed amazement. "You’re a miracle worker, Morgana."
They stepped into the room and immediately froze. Before them lay a massive, three-headed dog, its heads resting on its massive paws, fast asleep.
'Cerberus,' Morgana communicated mentally, her eyes wide with awe.
'What in Merlin's name is a Cerberus doing here?' Anthony responded, his eyes fixed on the beast.
Morgana took a cautious step back, her mind racing. 'Guarding something, obviously. But what?'
As they observed the creature, Morgana noticed how overly thin it was. 'Anthony, he’s too thin. This isn't right. I’m worried, both for him and us.'
'We’ll come back to check on it when we have steaks to offer instead of ourselves,' Anthony promised. 'For now, we need to get to safety.'
Morgana agreed. 'Moving slowly and making as little noise as possible is the safest way to continue.'
With that, they moved as silently as possible, careful not to wake the sleeping guardian. The weight of their discovery pressed down on them, but their curiosity and determination propelled them forward.
As they edged along the walls, Morgana's thoughts raced. 'What could be so important that it needs a Cerberus to guard it? And how does this fit into everything else we’ve uncovered?'
Anthony, sensing her thoughts, gave her a reassuring look. 'We’ll figure it out, Morgana. Together.'
With renewed resolve, they continued their cautious exploration, each step bringing them closer to the heart of the mystery hidden within the forbidden corridor.
———————————————The History of Magic classroom buzzed with the usual chatter as students settled into their seats. Remus and Sirius, co-teaching the lesson, stood at the front, ready to delve into the rich history of Hogwarts’ founders.
Sirius began, his voice commanding attention. “Today, we’ll be discussing the founders of Hogwarts and their extraordinary achievements.”
Remus continued, “Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin are known for their immense contributions to the magical world. Each founded one of the four houses of Hogwarts, but their influence goes far beyond that.”
