JOHANNA POV - ͟͟͞☆Johanna walked behind Clove and Cato who were bickering about who had to share first.
She glared at the trees as she passed. She also glared at the rocks. And the birds. And the grass. She was full of glares.
Bored, she decided to listen in on the Clove and Cato's, or 'Clato' as Madge, Annie and Finch had stated, conversation.
"I don't want to go first!" Clove insisted.
"Well neither do I Shortie!" Cato argued.
"Quit calling me that!" Clove complained, elbowing him in the side. He let out an exaggerated whimper. Clove rolled her eyes for what seemed like the 100th time that day.
"How 'bout we just rock, paper, scissors?" Cato suggested. Clove nodded and they played a round resulting in Clove playing Paper and Cato playing Rock.
"Ha, you have to go Blondie!" Clove taunted. Cato rolled his eyes but hid a small smile and shared the prompts Effie had given moments ago.
"I am 15, obviously. I have a younger sister named Cassidy who is 6-" Johanna stopped listening as she found a small pebble which she began kicking across the path.
Looking up at the sky, she figured out it was around 4:30-ish and grew excited for the end of this boring tour.
Johanna hadn't wanted to go to this camp in the first place, instead wanting to go to a hand to hand combat camp. Her mother had insisted it was too dangerous and signed her up for this stupid camp resulting in an annoyed Johanna.
Johanna had never liked social things like camp and had always preferred alone time and not having to socialize with the world around her.
The only person in her Cabin she had even gotten close to even growing a smidge of a liking towards was Clove and that's because she kind of reminded Johanna of herself in a way. Snarky, sarcastic, murderous, all of the above.
Johanna looked up just in time to skid to a stop before crashing into Cato and Clove as they had stopped at a large area filled with all kinds of sports stuff.
There was a basketball court by the small hill towards the back of the landscape, a sand volleyball court closer to the lake, a soccer field which laid on artificial green turf, a football field with the same turf, a lap pool which held shimmering blue water, a track going around the football field, a large amphitheater with musical posters posted on the outside like at movie theaters, a multipurpose gym in the middle of the complex, and even a baseball diamond.
"Welcome to the Sports Complex! While you stay at Panem Summer Camp this summer, there will be tryouts for an annual play. Tryouts for various things will be announced at tomorrow morning's announcements. There will also be various activities held in this complex which will be included during your stay. I hope you all try at least one thing and if not, cheer on your cabin mates as they pursue their games and performances," Leilani explained.
Johanna saw Clove's eyes light up, as did Cato's. Sports fanatics Johanna assumed.
"Now, Effie, do you have something for them to do on the way to the docks down there?" she said, pointing at the sparkling water down by the sand volleyball courts.
"Ooh, how about a race?" Effie suggested in her high pitched voice.
"Yes!" Clove exclaimed, clearly liking the idea of this race.
"Wonderful! Haymitch, where should we make the start and finish lines?"
"How about from this tree with the weird bird drawing on it to that awkwardly placed flag pole is the starting line and once you touch the dock you have finished?" Haymitch said in his raspy voice.
"Splendid! Everyone take your places!" Johanna found a spot at the very end, right next to what Haymitch said and she agreed, was a very awkwardly placed flag pole.
From her, on went Katniss, Clove, Cato, Thresh, Madge, Annie, Peeta, Finch. Gale, and finally Finnick on the opposing end.
Katniss, Thresh, and Gale looked nervous but they were trying to hide it. Johanna didn't know what the big deal was. It was just a race to the dock.
Annie, Finch, Peeta, and Madge looked about ready to give up before the race even started. Cato was trying to talk to Clove but she was ignoring him, getting in a ready position.
As for herself, Johanna didn't honestly care, as there was nothing you would win besides bragging rights.
"On your marks!" Effie's voice came. "Get set!" she called out, holding out the pause suspensefully. "Go!" And they were off.
In a matter of seconds Johanna had noticed Peeta, Madge, Finch, and Annie had given up, changing to a walking pace.
Finnick had tripped over his own feet and was rolling down the hill wildly, wailing loudly.
Johanna and Katniss were at a slow jogging pace, in between giving up and actually caring.
Gale and Thresh kept "accidentally" bumping into each other causing them to veer off course.
At the very front and nearly seconds away from reaching the dock, was Cato and Clove, neck and neck.
Finally, after giving up seeing that the two were far ahead, everyone quit and sat down in the grass. Johanna laid down and flailed her arms out like a starfish.
Only did she sit up when she heard a loud "YES!" coming from the dock.
As she sat up, she noticed a very defeated Cato staring with his mouth slightly open at the small, dark haired girl who was being so very humble. (Note the sarcasm).
"You owe me five bucks baker boy," Katniss whispered from next to Peeta. Peeta sighed and forked out a limp five dollar bill from his pant pocket.
Madge and Annie who stood next to Johanna were coming up with ship names for the blonde haired boy and dark haired girl.
"Keeta?" Annie suggested. They both ended up shaking their heads at that.
"Everlark?" Madge said, thoughtfully.
"I like that but let's try some others," added Annie.
"What about Peen-"
"NO!" Johanna yelled from next to them. Annie's face quickly reddened when she realized what she had meant.
"Yeah, let's not do that one," Madge said, laughing softly.
