Chapter Two

CATO POV  - ͟͟͞☆

Directly after Mags Flanagan announced they would simply start the Safety Meeting without Cabin 29, the doors were flung open and Cabin 29 walked in. 

Cato, along with the rest of their Cabin, watched them, taking notice of their appearances. There were seven girls in total excluding their counselor. They were in a clump with two girls at the front on either of the counselor's side. 

The two at the front were short and each had waist length hair. One had red hair and freckles and vivid eyes. The other girl, a thin blonde, had pale blue eyes and a small nose. 

Behind them was a row of three. The girl farthest to the left had red hair as well but had large round glasses perched on her pointed nose. Her face reminded Cato of a fox's and she too had freckles sprinkled across her cheeks. 

To her right was a tall blonde haired girl who had emerald green eyes and a fully make upped face. Next to the blonde was another girl falling just under the other girl's height who had a dark haired braid falling down her back. She had gray eyes and olive colored skin and was speaking quietly with the blonde girl. 

Behind the fox-faced girl was an average sized girl with dyed red hair. This girl had wide set brown eyes which had a venomous look in them. 

Cato's breath is intaken when his eye's land on the girl next to the dyed hair girl. The girl was small, smaller than the two girl's at the front, and had a thin frame. Her dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail and matched the color of her dark eyes. Her freckles popped out against her pale skin and she was scowling at the dyed hair girl.

"Cato's got a crush!" Finnick sings, appearing beside him with a pile of sugar cubes sitting in his hand. He pops one in his mouth, smiling at the taste.

"Shut it Odair. I do not," Cato argued. Finnick gave him a knowing look and continued eating his sugar cubes. 

Cabin 29 sat down at the large circular table adjacent to the boys and turned towards the front. Mags started her presentation but Cato found his eyes drifting over to the girl again. She was beautiful.

"Hadley's checking out the girls!" Finnick teased loudly.

"Is there a problem back there 28?" Mags called back to them.

"Nope!" Finnick exclaimed. Mags rolled her eyes and continued teaching about what to do if someone breaks their arm on a hike.

"Oh my gosh! You're so loud!" Cato exclaimed, quietly. He slapped Finnick's arm causing him to fake a whimper.

"Thweshy! Cato swapped me!" he pouted to Thresh who was sitting on his other side.

"So?" Thresh stated before turning back to the front. Cato rolled his eyes and found his hands to fidget with while waiting for the presentation to conclude. 

Finally, it finished and Cabin 28 followed Haymitch outside for the tour. Haymitch pulled the boys over to the side for a small chat.

"We will be touring with Cabin 29 so please be kind to the girls," he stated quickly before turning, hair whipping him across the face, and walking over to the Cabin 29 counselor who was chatting with the tour guide. 

The Cabin 29 counselor made an announcement that they were to introduce themselves and the group formed a circle, Cabin 28 on one side and Cabin 29 on the other.

"We will go around and say our first and last names alright?" the high pitched voice of the Cabin 29 counselor exclaimed. The girl with the dyed hair started to complain.

"We already did this!!!" she argued.

"Well, too bad," the counselor said. "I'll start! I am Counselor Effie Trinket but please call me Effie!" She gestured for the braid girl who was sitting next to her to go.

"I'm Katniss Everdeen," she said awkwardly.

"Finch Crossley," the fox-faced girl said.

"Madge Undersee," said the petite blue eyed girl.

"Annie Cresta," the other red head stated.

"Glimmer Belcourt," the tall blonde said.

"Johanna," the dyed red had stated in annoyance, refusing to give her last name. Next was the dark haired girl.

"Clove Kentwell," she said, boredly. What a pretty name, thought Cato. Clove began fidgeting with her fingernail as Haymitch introduced himself.

"Counselor Haymitch Abernathy, but call me Haymitch."

"Gale Hawthorne," Gale said. Gale was tall and lanky and had chocolate colored hair. He had the same gray eyes as the Katniss girl but his were a slightly lighter shade.

"Thresh Morrowson," Thresh stated. Thresh was a tall dark skinned boy with dark hair. He had deep ebony eyes and refused to listen to Finnick's constant complaining.

"Finnick Odair," Finnick said happily. He smiled and popped another sugar cube in his mouth. Finnick had golden blonde hair and sea green eyes. Finnick caught the attention of a lot of the girls which he smiled at.

"Peeta Mellark," Peeta said. Peeta was shorter and had blonde hair as well. He had blue eyes and was incredibly kind hearted. Next was Cato's turn.

"Cato Hadley," he said.

"Marvel Sanford," Marvel said with a goofy grin upon his face. Marvel was the funniest in the group already and had light brown hair and soft green eyes. 

As it had looped back around the circle to Effie, she stood with Haymitch and the two fifteen year old cabins did as well. Their tour guide, a tall brown haired girl with tan skin, introduced herself as Leilani and shared she was 24. She smiled and dimples shone upon her face.

"We will start farthest away from camp and then work our way back so get used to the opposite cabin as our first half-hike will be about 30 minutes." 

Johanna started complaining but was shushed by Clove who jabbed her elbow into her side causing her to go into a glaring contest with Clove. Glimmer called the two girls over and they broke from their glaring contest to join the girls who were walking in a clump far away from the boys. A good ten minutes later, Cato looked at Finnick and he nodded slyly back at him. Go time.
