PEETA POV - ͟͟͞☆Peeta wrinkled his nose as Cabin 28 walked into the Mess Hall for their skills test.
He didn't know how he didn't notice earlier, but the Mess Hall reeked of something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
Whatever it was, it smelled terrible and caused multiple people in their group to either plug their noses or pull their shirts over their nose.
Following them was Cabin 29, the same cabin they had gone on the tour with and Peeta found his eyes trailing over to the girl with the chocolate colored braid.
He didn't know what it was about her, maybe her smile, or her gray eyes, or the way she had talked with him when they had been paired together to get to know each other. He was drawn out of his thoughts with a sharp jab to the side.
"Ow! What was that for!?" he hissed at Finnick who just stood there grinning.
"Well, I was trying to talk to you but you were too busy staring at Katpiss- I mean Katniss, to notice."
"I was most definitely not staring at her!" Peeta argued.
"Face it, you are whipped," Finnick said, dragging out the syllables of each word to add to the suspense.
"Whatever," Peeta said, rolling his eyes.
"May I have your attention, everyone?" a raspy voice boomed out to the fifteen year olds.
Everyone shut up and faced to the front where a man with an ugly beard wearing a black and red outfit stood. He cleared his throat and spoke more clearly this time.
"Welcome to your first skills test. I am Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker and these are the other Gamemakers, as we like to call ourselves."
He gestured to the seven people standing behind him who didn't even bother to do as much as wave. "As this is your first skills test, this will be on paper but next time it will be a physical test."
Someone from the group of girls squeaked nervously and Peeta heard someone else say, "Imagine having tests at a summer camp."
Peeta agreed with whoever had said that. I mean, we go to school nearly nine months a year, give us a break. Peeta thought. The man with the rat for a mustache continued on.
"Everyone find a seat and my fellow Gamemakers will pass out the sheets." Everyone scurried around to claim seats and Peeta ended up in between Finnick and Marvel.
A Gamemaker placed a sheet in front of him moments later and he took that as a signal to start. He wrote neatly at the top; Peeta Mellark, and continued to the questions.
#1: How tall are you?
#2: How old are you?
#3: What school do you go to?
Peeta flicked through the rest of the test quickly.
#23: What is your address
#24: What is your phone number?
#25: What is 2 times 5?
"Are they trying to scam us or something?" Peeta voiced to Marvel who was staring blankly at the piece of paper, which he hadn't even marked with his pencil. "What kind of skills test is this?"
"Oh my gosh. I forgot how to multiply," Marvel muttered. Peeta looked at him incredulously but then decided he didn't care and resumed filling out the supposed "skills test".
*******
After a very confusing "skills" test, Peeta stood up and walked over to the stack of completed papers.
He set his sheet on top and turned around to walk back to his seat and ran smack into someone. He looked up and it was like he was looking up at a skyscraper from his short structure.
"I was just looking for you Bread Boy," Gale sneered.
"Um, ok?" Peeta said. Gale grabbed ahold of Peeta's thin arm and dragged him outside.
"Where are you going kids?" Haymitch called out to them in his raspy voice.
"Bathroom," Gale said, waving him off. He continued to drag him around outside, Peeta wondering what the heck was going on, and then finally stopped behind the large mess hall.
Gale then slammed Peeta against the wall and hissed into his ear. "I saw you looking at Katniss, Baker Boy."
"Ok... and?" Peeta asked.
"You need to stay away from her Pita Bread-"
"It's Peeta Mellark, not Pita Bread," Peeta corrected, interrupting Gale's little heart to heart.
"Shut up," Gale seethed. "You stay away from her, got it? She's mine, all mine, you understand?"
"And if I don't?" Peeta questioned, looking at Gale in his stormy gray eyes.
"If you don't what?" he spat in Peeta's face, causing Peeta to use his hand to wipe where a dot of spit landed, much to Peeta's disgust.
"If I don't stay away from her?"
"Then I will beat you up," he threatened. Peeta just looked at him. Gale stared back, waiting for an answer from the blonde boy.
"Oh," Peeta said after a second. "Is this the part I'm supposed to be scared?" Gale growled, making him sound like a furry. "I'll take that as a yes I guess? I'm very scared?"
Gale looked like he was about to beat the living daylights out of this boy but before Gale could even open his mouth, Peeta kicked him where the sun don't shine and ran away, Gale falling to the floor behind him.
Peeta ran to the entrance, flung the door open and ran smack into someone, again. "I'm so sorry," he said, looking to see who it was.
Katniss Everdeen was standing before him in all her glory, blushing as red as a tomato.
"No, I'm sorry, I should've watched where I was going," she said. She smiled, tucked a piece of hair that blew astray from her braid behind her ear and moved past Peeta and to her destination.
Peeta felt like he had just said hi to an angel as he walked back to his seat in a daze. He sat down and someone whispered something in his ear.
"I told you, you're whipped," said Finnick.
⋆⭒˚.⋆ SOPHIA SPEAKS ⋆⭒˚.⋆ Aloha Pookies. So, here's another chapter. I really enjoyed writing this one, probably because Gale got kicked in the no-no square. Thanks so much for over 130 reads, I can't believe it. I might write one more chapter tonight or this might be my last chapter until Friday (Read the A/N before this and you'll understand), it just depends how I feel about it or if I have any ideas. If you have any ideas or requests, let me know, and I will try to do them. Thanks so much for reading! Buh bye :)
