Chapter Twenty Three

ANNIE POV  - ͟͟͞☆

Annie walked with Madge and Katniss to the mess hall for lunch. The rest of their cabin was on kitchen duty because of their food fight they started and Annie had made sure to take a lot of pictures of them in their ridiculous aprons and hairnets. 

Annie had managed to push the thought of getting the results back for the play to the back of her mind and instead was talking with Madge and Katniss about Johanna and the boy from Cabin 33.

"They are soooo cute!" Madge squealed, referring to when they were walking back from tryouts and Jo was smiling at Leo. 

"For real," Katniss replied blankly, staring off into the distance as they walked. Annie could tell there was something wrong but decided to wait until the two girls were alone to talk to her about it. 

"What should their ship name be?" Annie asked, thoughtfully. 

"Either Joleo or Lohanna," Madge decided.

"I vote Joleo," Katniss said.

"ME TOO!" someone yelled from behind them. The three girls whipped around to see Leo standing there with one of his friends that Annie didn't know the name of. Leo was trying to tell the guy to shut up but he kept on rambling about how much Leo talked about Jo.

"WE FORGOT TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES!" Leo yelled, cutting his friend off with a strained smile. "I'm Leo, as you already knew, and this is Ethan," he said jabbing his finger at the boy next to him. The boy waved at the three girls and then it was their turn to introduce themselves. 

"I'm Madge," Madge said from next to Annie. "This is Annie, and Katniss," she said pointing to each of the two as she said their name. "Nice to meet you." The group started walking again, this time with the addition of 

"So," Leo started. "Does Johanna talk about me at all?"

"Very smooth," Ethan muttered, smirking at Leo who was blushing a light pink color.

"Shut up," Leo said, jabbing his elbow into Ethan's side causing him to yelp.

"To answer your question, yes," Annie said, smirking. "Jo talks about you all the time! Leo this, Leo that!" Ok, so she may be exaggerating but it was funny seeing the boy's look of awe. 

"Aye, you might actually have a chance bro," Sophia from Cabin 30 said, coming up next to them with her friend Kinzley.

"Shut up," Leo mumbled, blushing a bright red this time. 

"No," Sophia said simply. 

"Hey, don't your friends have kitchen duty for starting that good fight this morning?" Kinzley asked Annie, Madge and Katniss.

"Yea-" Madge started, before she was cut of by Sophia.

"Oh my gosh, that was crazy," the curly haired girl said. "I nailed Walker in the face with a waffle and I dumped  an entire milk carton on Ethan."

"I showered for like an hour trying to get rid of the smell!" Ethan groaned. 

"She also threw a pancake in the air and it landed on the ceiling," Kinzley stated. "I think it's still there."

The group had reached the mess hall by now and it was already filling with kids. The group of seven got in line and Annie grabbed a tray and got in the line for Mac and cheese. Madge joined her but the others got in line for pizza. The line slowly inched forward and soon Annie was face to face with Finnick who was scowling, his hair net falling over his face and his apron stained with yellow Mac and cheese.

"Wow, what happened to you?" Annie laughed. Finnick's head snapped up when he realized it was Annie.

"Twelve year olds," Finnick breathed "Are monsters." Annie laughed and reached over the counter to fix his hair net. The golden haired boy blushed but Annie was too shocked of her own actions to notice. 

"I'm so sorry-" she started to blurt out, burning beet red.

"Hey, it's fine, Ann," Finnick assured, shining his signature smile, the one that made Annie simply melt. 

"Hey, you're holding up the line," Madge whispered, tapping on her shoulder.  Annie blushed even deeper and said a quick goodbye to Finnick, and made her way through the rest of the line after getting he Mac and cheese. 

Sophia was waving her and Madge over to a table with her, Katniss, Kinzley, Leo, and Ethan so Annie followed Madge over.

"Oh my goodness that was SO awkward," Annie complained to her blonde haired friend as she sat down.

"Don't you mean SO CUTE? That was ADORABLE!" Madge squealed. 

"What happened?" Katniss asked. The three were safe to talk without no one listening because the rest of their table was arguing about football teams. 

"There was an Odesta moment in the lunch line!" Madge squealed. Annie groaned and buried her face into her hands.

Annie walked with Katniss back to the cabins after lunch. Madge had decided to go with Sophia and Kinzley to talk about some book they had all read and Ethan and Leo ditched them for some boys in Cabin 31.

"Hey," Annie said, breaking the awkward silence that had fallen over them. "Are you ok? You seemed a bit off before lunch."

Katniss frowned. "It's just.... oh never mind, it's stupid."

"What is it?"

"It's just well... ok you have to promise not to tell anyone, alright?"

"I promise."

"I kinda sorta maybe have a tiny crush on Peeta?" the brown haired girl said, her voice getting higher and higher with each word.

"YESSSSSS!" Annie exclaimed.

"What?" Katniss said, blushing. 

"MY SHIP IS SAILING!!!!!!!!" Annie exclaimed, jumping up and down. Katniss facepalmed and shoved Annie.

"Ugh! You're the worst!" she exclaimed. Annie knew her friend was joking because she was smiling but her words made Annie pause.

What if that's what people thought of her? The worst? The worst friend, the worst actress, the worst person. The list could go on and on. This was normal for Annie, a simple sentence making her anxiety explode inside of her. 

Katniss must've noticed cause she stopped walking. Annie stopped with her.

"Hey Annie," she said. "You know I was just joking right? You're amazing." Annie nodded and smiled.

"I'm sorry," the red head said. "It's just sometimes my anxiety gets the best of me," she admitted. 

Katniss wrapped her in a hug and the two stood like that for a minute or two. 

"I still ship you and Peeta," Annie whispered into the brown haired girl's ear. Then she sprinted away, Katniss chasing after her.
