Ada finished dressing and joined Chidi Okoye outside, ready for the day's work. They drove in silence, each lost in their thoughts. A few miles away from the company, Ada pulled over, her nerves getting the better of her.
"Sir, I don't want us to arrive in the same car at the company so people won't think otherwise," she stammered.
Chidi sighed, understanding her concern. "So, what do you propose?"
"I'll walk the remaining distance, and you can take the car," Ada suggested, trying to get out, but Chidi stopped her.
"I'll walk instead," he insisted, stepping out before Ada could protest.
Ada rolled down the window, worry etched on her face. "Sir, are you sure you'll be fine?"
"I will, thanks," Chidi replied, giving her a reassuring smile before walking away.
Ada watched him for a moment before driving to the company, confusion and worry gnawing at her. She entered the office and tried to focus on her work, but her mind kept drifting back to Tunde Adewale and how she would what happened between them.
Hours later, Ada and her colleague, Bambam, decided to take a break and head to the coffee shop. As they walked towards the door, they were interrupted by a voice.
"Miss Bam Bam!" Mrs. Abosede called out, hurrying towards them.
Ada and Bambam stopped in their tracks. "Go and tell Mr. Folarin to inform the chairman that he should represent the CEO in the upcoming meeting that will hold very soon," Mrs. Abosede instructed. "It just reached me that the CEO fainted on his way to the company and has been rushed to the hospital," she added before leaving.
Bam Bam rushed back, leaving Ada standing there, her worry intensifying. She pulled out her phone and saw the headline: "Chidi Okoye, CEO of Paystack, Collapses on Ogunnaike Street."
Panic gripped her, and she decided to go to the hospital immediately. As she made her way out, she noticed a group of older men in suits entering the company. They were obviously there for the meeting. She pushed aside her concern and hurried to the hospital.
Upon arrival, she wasn't allowed in and had to wait anxiously. The minutes felt like hours, and the silence was deafening. Mrs. Abosede had arranged everything, leaving Ada feeling even more helpless. She waited, but no news came.
As the day wore on, it was time for Ada to go home. She knew she couldn't return to the garage and face Tunde, fearing Tunde might be back from mainland. She had packed her belongings that morning, anticipating this situation. She remembered the key Chidi had given her and decided to head to the address: 21 Ikoyi Crescent, Lekki.
Arriving in Lekki, she found herself in a Government Residential Area (GRA). The address led her to a grand mansion, painted a pristine white. The sheer size and elegance of the house took her breath away. A gateman opened the gate and approached her.
"Madam," he said, smiling as he helped with her belongings.
Ada almost fainted as she entered the house. The interior was breathtaking: grand chandeliers hung from high ceilings, casting a warm glow. The living room was vast, with luxurious furniture and elegant decor. A large, ornate staircase led to the upper floors. The kitchen was modern, with state-of-the-art appliances. Each room was designed with meticulous attention to detail, from the marble floors to the intricate woodwork.
The master bedroom featured a king-sized bed with a canopy, and the en suite bathroom was equipped with a jacuzzi and a walk-in shower. The windows offered a stunning view of the landscaped garden outside. Ada felt like she was in a dream.
"Welcome, madam," the gateman said, finishing bringing in her bags.
"Thank you," Ada replied, still in awe. She wandered through the house, taking in every detail. The sheer opulence was overwhelming.
As she settled in, she couldn't shake the worry about Tunde and now Chidi. She sat on the plush sofa, trying to process everything that had happened. The grandeur of the house contrasted sharply with the turmoil in her heart.
She knew she had to find a way to resolve things with Tunde and support Chidi. But for now, she allowed herself to rest, surrounded by the luxury that felt so foreign to her. The mansion was a symbol of a new chapter in her life, one filled with uncertainty and potential.
