Adaora had quickly settled into her routine at Paystack. The early morning meetings, the regular client updates, and the occasional code fixes were all becoming second nature. But today felt different. The office buzzed with energy as she found a moment to breathe, pulling out her laptop and typing away at a simple JavaScript function she’d been working on.

The lines of code danced before her eyes:

function addNumbers(a, b) {
  return a + b;
}
console.log(addNumbers(5, 10));

It was a simple task, but Adaora enjoyed these moments when she could lose herself in coding. The routine offered her a brief escape from the chaos of the office.

She leaned back in her chair, satisfied with the script running smoothly in her console when her phone buzzed. A message from Chidi Okoye.

"Come to my office. Now."

Adaora’s heart skipped a beat. Chidi rarely sent her direct messages, and when he did, it was never casual. She hesitated for a moment, staring at the blinking cursor on her screen before closing her laptop. Whatever it was, it sounded urgent. She stood up, adjusted her blouse, and made her way to Chidi’s office.

As she approached the heavy wooden door, her nerves prickled. She knocked softly, but there was no answer. Pausing for a moment, she gently turned the handle, pushing the door open. The room was dimly lit, and to her surprise, Chidi wasn’t seated at his desk.

"Chidi?" she called out softly, stepping further into the room. She was about to turn and leave when the door closed behind her with a soft click. Startled, Adaora whirled around only to find Chidi standing right behind the door, his figure tall and imposing.

Before she could scream, his hand clamped over her mouth, pressing her back against the door. Her heart pounded in her chest as her hands instinctively shot up to push him away, but Chidi was faster. He pinned her wrists above her head with one strong hand, the other sliding down to caress her thighs.

"Shh..." he whispered, his voice dangerously low. His lips crashed against hers before she could protest further, and Adaora froze. His kiss was firm, commanding, but what startled her more was the wave of heat rushing through her body.

Chidi’s hand traveled from her thigh to her waist, his fingers brushing against the curve of her ass. The room felt suffocating, and Adaora's mind raced, torn between resisting and something far more dangerous—her body betraying her as it responded to his touch.

He paused for a moment, breaking the kiss, his eyes searching hers. "Who gave you permission to kiss me? To touch my body?" she asked breathlessly, trying to sound angry, but the tremor in her voice betrayed her.

Chidi smirked, leaning in closer. "You didn’t stop me."

Before Adaora could reply, there was a knock at the door. "Mr. Chidi?" Paul’s voice echoed from the hallway, a loud reminder of the reality they were in.

Adaora’s heart leapt into her throat. She struggled, trying to pull away, but Chidi’s grip tightened. Instead of answering Paul, Chidi pressed his body against hers even more, his lips moving down to her neck. His breath was hot against her skin, his kisses slow and deliberate. Adaora tried to stifle a moan, but the sensation was overwhelming.

"Chidi, stop. Paul’s right outside!" she whispered harshly, panic setting in, but Chidi only continued, his lips tracing the sensitive spot near her collarbone. Adaora’s pulse quickened, her body conflicted, but the thought of being caught pushed her to act. She pushed against his chest with all her strength.

Chidi finally let go, stepping back with a smug smile. "You’ll come back for more."

Adaora, flushed and shaken, straightened her blouse and bolted for the door. She didn’t stop running until she was safely back in her own office. She locked the door behind her, leaning against it as her breath came in ragged gasps. Her lips were swollen, her neck still tingling from where Chidi had kissed her.

She touched her lips, biting them softly. She was already wet, her body betraying the strict boundaries she had set for herself. This had been her first time being kissed like that, and it had felt so... good. But this wasn’t the place for it, and certainly not with Chidi.

Her heart still racing, Adaora rushed to the bathroom to clean up, hoping the cold water would cool the heat between her legs.

Tunde sat in his spacious office at Spark Technologies, his thoughts miles away. Business had been slow lately, and he knew the company was faltering under his leadership. Since being removed as CEO, the pressure was mounting. He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling, wondering how everything had spiraled out of control.

The phone rang, breaking his thoughts. He answered it without glancing at the screen.

"Mide, good to hear from you," Tunde said, his voice lacking its usual vigor.

"Same here, boss. Just checking in. You know, we need to think of the next big move for Spark."

Tunde nodded absentmindedly. "I’ve been thinking. I need a private bodyguard and a smart assistant. Someone I can trust. And I want you to find Dr. Lawson. That man caused Adaora a lot of pain, and I want him to pay for it."

"Dr. Lawson?" Mide sounded surprised. "You mean the fraud doctor?"

"Yes, him. Get Ahmad on it. I want to know where he is, and I want it handled discreetly."

Tunde hung up, already feeling a little more in control. He wasn’t going to let anyone hurt Adaora again, not even from her past.

Paul’s Apartment

Paul sighed as he entered his home after a long day at Paystack. He was greeted by the sound of his sister, Adeola, crying on the couch, a Hermes bag lying beside her.

"Not again," Paul muttered under his breath. "You’ve been played by another guy, haven’t you?"

Adeola glared at him, her eyes puffy from crying. "Can’t you guess something else for once? Everything is not about men!"

Paul sat down next to her, shaking his head. "With you, it usually is. You jump from one guy to another. How am I supposed to think differently?"

"Shut up, Paul," Adeola snapped. "It’s not about that this time."

"Then what’s wrong?" Paul asked, genuinely curious now.

"I... I got fired," Adeola finally admitted, her voice breaking. "They fired me from the press."

Paul frowned, feeling a wave of sympathy for her. "What did you do wrong?"

Adeola avoided his gaze, wiping her tears. "Is it about what I did wrong or that I’m now jobless?" she snapped, grabbing Paul’s arm and pulling him close. "You need to help me find a job!"

"There’s no vacancy at Paystack right now," Paul replied, trying to sound calm.

"Do something, Paul! I can’t stay jobless like this!" she cried, tugging on his sleeve.

Paul sighed deeply. "Well, Spark Technologies is a good option. They’re facing challenges, but they’re stable now after the new partnership."

Adeola looked hopeful for a moment, but Paul quickly added, "But I can't help you there. They're our rival company. I don't want to be implicated

Adeola's face fell again. "Then what am I supposed to do?

Paul smiled softly. Try it anyway. I've heard the founder, Tunde Adeyemi, is a generous man. Maybe he can help you out.

Adeola nodded, wiping the last of her tears, determined to give it a shot.
