The Blow Continues....
The morning sun filtered through the blinds as Tunde sat at his desk in Spark Technologies, still thinking about the events of the past few days. His assistant Adeola had just entered, her expression full of concern.
"Sir, The letter...... marked URGENT. I hope everything's okay?" Adeola asked, her eyes scanning his face for answers.
Tunde forced a smile. "It's fine, really. Just... something to do with the police."
"Police? What do you have to do with them?" Adeola pressed, her curiosity piqued.
Tunde let out a sigh, leaning back in his chair. "It's a long story."
The next day, Tunde found himself at the Lagos State Police Headquarters. The walls were painted a faded yellow, and the entire building had the air of a place where countless dramas had unfolded. As he stepped through the front doors, he felt the weight of the situation settling on his shoulders. What had started as a plan to finally confront Dr. Lawrence was escalating rapidly.
By midday, the word had come down: Dr. Lawrence was taking him to court. The date had been fixed before Tunde even had the chance to fully process the gravity of the situation. It wasn't long before the news spread to both Adeola and Adaora.
Later that evening, Adaora showed up at Tunde's house, looking deeply concerned.
"How is Dr. Lawrence suing you?" Adaora blurted out. "We should be the ones suing him! He scammed me out of my money. I didn't even know the werey was still in Nigeria!"
Tunde rubbed his temples, his voice low and weary. "When I found out he was still in the country, I thought I could take him to the police and finally get some justice. But now he's trying to flip the whole situation around, and I'm sure someone else is behind this. I didn't harass him, I just took some soldiers with me to bring him to the station. When I called you that day, you were at fucking Chidi's house!" His voice raised slightly at the last sentence, the frustration boiling over.
Adaora lowered her head, guilt washing over her. "I didn't know things would get this complicated. Maybe... maybe you should've just left it to God's justice."
Tunde blinked in disbelief. "You can't be serious," he said, shaking his head. "You're actually saying that?"
Before Adaora could respond, Tunde walked out of the living room, retreating to his bedroom, leaving her standing there, feeling a mix of guilt and confusion.
A few moments later, Adeola stepped into the room, her expression sharp. "You think Tunde should've just let it go?" she snapped. "After everything Dr. Lawrence did? He's always thinking of you, Adaora, even when it doesn't seem like it. He knows how much you suffered after that man stole your money causing mother's death—everything."
Adaora's face twisted in shock. "He told you everything?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes, and you have no right to tell him to leave things alone. This is about more than just you," Adeola replied, her words hitting like a hammer.
Suddenly feeling overwhelmed, Adaora grabbed her bag and left the house. As she drove away, tears streamed down her face. She didn't know if she was more hurt by Tunde sharing her secrets or by the realization that she might have been wrong all along.
Back at the house, Tunde emerged from his room to find Adeola sitting on the couch. He glanced around and noticed that Adaora was gone.
"She left," Adeola said softly.
Tunde sat down next to her, rubbing his face with his hands. "This whole situation is a mess."
"Have you gotten a lawyer?" Adeola asked, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Yes," Tunde replied with a heavy sigh. "Ok I would have introduced my dad's lawyer to handle the case" Adeola added.
"But thanks for the offer. Your dad's lawyer is top-notch, but I'll stick with mine for now."
"Something's off here, though," he added, almost as an afterthought.
"What do you mean?" Adeola asked, leaning forward.
"I'm starting to suspect Chidi might be involved. Dr. Lawrence doesn't have the guts to do all this on his own. They tried to bring Mide down, and now they're coming after me."
The day of the court hearing arrived, and the air was thick with tension. The media was already having a field day, with headlines about Tunde allegedly bullying Dr. Lawrence and his daughter making waves on social media.
Adaora sat in the courtroom, anxiety gnawing at her. She knew this was serious, but something about the way things had unfolded didn't sit right with her. Across the room, she spotted Chidi Okoye, his face calm and unreadable. Her heart sank at the sight.
Tunde walked into the room, flanked by his lawyer. Adeola was already seated in the front, giving him a nod of support. The courtroom buzzed with murmurs as Dr. Lawrence's lawyer began his opening remarks, painting a vivid picture of how Tunde had allegedly terrorized his client and his daughter.
"Mr. Adeyemi stormed into Dr. Lawrence's residence with soldiers—armed, no less—frightening the man's young daughter, who suffers from hypertension. Neighbors can testify to the fear they witnessed, and Dr. Lawrence's wife will also corroborate this story," the lawyer declared, his voice ringing out across the room.
Tunde sat motionless, his face unreadable, while his lawyer calmly addressed the court. "Mr. Adeyemi went to Dr. Lawrence's house with soldiers not to bully him, but to ensure everything remained official and to avoid any accusations of misconduct. As the CEO of a major corporation, he moves with security personnel regularly due to the nature of his position. He acted within the bounds of the law."
Just as it seemed the case would sway in Tunde's favor, Dr. Lawrence's lawyer produced a document from Tunde's past.
"Let's talk about Mr. Adeyemi's history," the lawyer said, smirking. "Years ago, he was expelled from Methodist High School for being a bully. Parents complained, and that's the reason he left."
Adeola's face turned pale. Methodist High School? Now Tunde can't deny he didn't attend that school. She knew that well. Tunde had attended, but he didn't leave because of bullying. She knew the real reason—his father's sudden death had forced him to withdraw. This lie could cost him everything and now she's more interested in handling the case.
