As the evening drew to a close, Tunde drove Ada home. She mentioned casually, "I got a new place."
"Oh? That's great," Tunde replied, not pressing for details.
As they approached the driveway, Tunde's eyes widened in awe at the sight of the beautifully built mansion. "Wow! This is wonderful," he commended, genuinely impressed.
Immediately, they were greeted by the gateman. "Madam, you're back! Good evening," he said warmly.
"Good evening," Ada replied with a smile.
The gateman then turned to Tunde, "Good evening, sir," he greeted, before helping them with the clothes they had bought.
"You even have a gateman. I'm happy for you," Tunde said, his admiration clear in his voice.
Ada smiled, inviting him in for dinner. As they reached the entrance, the gateman greeted Tunde again, "Oga mi, sir!" It was obvious he was hoping for a tip.
Tunde discreetly wrapped 5,000 naira in his hand and handed it to the gateman, who prostrated in gratitude. "God bless you, oga," he said before leaving them be.
Once inside, Tunde and Ada made their way to the dining room and got seated, ready to share a heartfelt conversation. Ada looked at Tunde curiously and asked, "What was your first impression of me?"
Tunde took a moment to think before replying, "You were just a good girl to me, someone I knew online with a special skill. The reason I helped you... it's still unknown to me, honestly."
Ada smiled at his honesty and then Tunde asked, "What about you? What was your first impression of me?"
Ada's eyes softened. "My first impression? You seemed like an angel that day, taking away my worries and solving my problems. You were a breath of fresh air."
Tunde blushed and admitted, "I think you're an angel too. You've always been there for me."
Tunde stared at Adaora "I want to always be your angel," he said sincerely. He then asked, "Ada, do you love me?"
Ada hesitated, her cheeks turning a deeper shade of red. "I think so, but I want to understand what love is first. Maybe we should go on a trial date instead of jumping into a full relationship."
Tunde nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a good idea. Let's date for a month and see how it goes."
Ada smiled, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "So, what do you have for dinner?" Tunde asked, changing the subject.
"Uhmm, what should I get for you?" Ada asked, eager to please.
"Shey you get eggs and butter?" Tunde inquired.
"Yes, but why do you ask?" Ada replied, her curiosity piqued.
"I want to finish my date plans by cooking dinner," Tunde said, smiling as he headed to the kitchen.
"That's the bedroom," Ada said, standing up to join him. She guided him to the kitchen, watching as he prepared an egg sauce with tuna fish and got the sliced bread from the fridge.
Tunde gently spread the egg sauce on the bread and pressed them together before putting it in the toasting machine. "Hope you're not mad I'm the first person using your toast machine," Tunde said, realizing it was new.
"What can't you do, bayii?" Ada said in surprise, watching as Tunde perfectly prepared everything.
Finally, the toast was ready, and they paired it with chilled Chivita Exotic. They moved to the sitting room, where Tunde suggested they watch a movie. He immediately changed the lights to a dim setting and put on the TV.
They watched a comedy, laughing and enjoying each other's company. A playful pillow fight ensued, their laughter filling the room. Tunde pinned Ada against the couch, their faces inches apart.
"You're amazing," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion.
"You're not so bad yourself," Ada replied, her eyes twinkling.
"You've made me feel important since day one, Tunde," Ada said, getting emotional.
They ended the night with another kiss, softer this time, filled with promise. The day had been perfect, and as Tunde drove home, he couldn't stop smiling. For the first time in a long time, he felt hopeful about the future.
