Adaora phone sat within reach, but Chidi, ever playful, slid it from her grip trying to divert her attention from Tunde.

“Don’t mind me,” he grinned. “Maybe I’m just missing you too much.”

Adaora rolled her eyes, but couldn’t help smiling at his childishness. As she stood to head for the kitchen, Chidi, not missing a beat, pulled her back for a good morning kiss—slow, warm, the kind that melted her into his arms.

“Let me go make breakfast,” Adaora murmured, gently pushing him away. She threw on a casual top and headed to the kitchen, expecting Chidi to follow her, teasing like Tunde used to. But instead, she heard the distinct hum of a football channel filling the living room. She sighed. Of course, football. Typical Chidi.

“Edikaikong soup, maybe with yellow eba,” Chidi called after her, his voice cheerful.

“Foodie!” Adaora teased as she washed her hands, already planning the meal in her head. The kitchen felt too quiet, her mind drifting. She half expected Chidi to come into the kitchen, teasing her like Tunde used to—pulling her by the waist, distracting her with playful kisses, or tossing her onto the counter. She could still feel the memory of Tunde’s hands lifting her onto the cabinet, his lips brushing her neck, thighs, leaving her breathless until her food burnt on the stove. Tunde always had that effect, never crossing the line but always hovering close to it.

But no, Chidi wasn’t like that. He was settled in front of the TV, lost in the game. She shook the thoughts of Tunde out of her head. It’s only been a few weeks with Chidi. There’s still plenty of time for surprises.

The soup’s aroma filled the apartment, the rich scent of the edikaikong wafting through the air.

“Are you done yet? I’m starving!” Chidi called from the living room, his voice tinged with impatience.

“I’m working on it!” Adaora laughed, stirring the pot. Men and food, she thought to herself, before quickly dishing out the soup. “Your precious soup is ready! Now, let me go prepare the eba.”

Before she could even finish the thought, she caught sight of Chidi already dipping his spoon into the bowl. “Chidi!” she exclaimed. “You haven’t even waited for the eba.”

Chidi grinned sheepishly, spoon halfway to his mouth. “Can’t help it. But don’t worry, I’ve got surprises for you today. Take a bath and let’s get ready for the day.”

Adaora raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue. She slipped into the bathroom, letting the water run hot as she tried to relax. What could Chidi have planned?

“Should I come in and join you?” Chidi called out teasingly from the other side of the door.

Adaora smirked. “Why not just come and bathe me?” she replied, sarcasm dripping in her voice.

As she soaked in the warm water, her mind wandered to Tunde again. She fought the urge to miss him—he’d been a whirlwind in her life, always knowing how to push her buttons. But Chidi… maybe there was more to him. She’d just have to wait and see what surprises he had in store.

Meanwhile, Bam Bam stirred alone in Chidi’s bed. She wasn’t pleased. Where could he have gone so early? She thought of calling him, but then realized she didn’t even have his number yet. Instead, she buried her face in his shirt, inhaling the scent that still clung to it. That would have to be enough for now.

Chidi, on the other hand, was already handling unfinished business. A glance at his phone revealed eight missed calls from Hannah. His brows furrowed, and without a second thought, he added her to his blacklist. Today was about Adaora, and he wasn’t going to let anyone ruin that.
