The Decision to Homeschool

It was a quiet evening in the Butler household. The kids had just gone to bed, and the soft hum of their laughter still echoed through the halls. Austin and Lucy sat on the couch, a map of the world spread out before them, dotted with sticky notes and highlighted routes.

Austin leaned back, his fingers tapping thoughtfully on the armrest. He gazed at the map, feeling a pang of nostalgia. *So many places I've seen, so many I want to share with them,* he thought. "You know, awards season is starting soon," he began, glancing at Lucy. "And with the press tours and events, I'll be traveling a lot. The thought of being away from you and the kids for long periods... it's not something I want to do anymore."

Lucy nodded, her eyes meeting his with understanding. She sighed, a mixture of relief and concern washing over her. *I've been feeling the same way,* she thought. "I feel the same way. We've always prioritized family, and I want us to experience everything together. I’ve been thinking, what if we homeschooled Lori and Timmy? That way, we could all travel as a family, and they wouldn’t miss out on their education."

Austin's eyes brightened at the idea. "That's a great idea," he said, feeling a surge of excitement. *It would give us the flexibility to travel, and the kids would get to learn from experiences around the world. Museums, historical sites, different cultures... it would be the best education we could give them.* "Imagine the things they could see and learn firsthand."

Lucy smiled, her excitement growing. "Plus, they wouldn't have to miss out on quality time with you," she added. "We could design a curriculum that fits our travels, and they'd get to see and learn so much more than they ever could in a traditional classroom."

Austin reached out, squeezing her hand. He felt a warmth spread through him, grateful for their shared vision. "Then it's settled. We'll homeschool them. Let's tell the kids tomorrow and see what they think."

"Telling the Kids"

The next morning, the family gathered in the living room. Lori sat cross-legged on the floor, playing with her dolls, while Timmy was busy assembling a puzzle. Austin and Lucy exchanged a glance before Austin cleared his throat, catching their attention.

"Hey, kids," Austin started, his tone gentle. He felt a flutter of nerves, hoping they'd be as excited as he was. "Mom and I have something exciting to talk to you about."

Lori looked up, curious. "What is it, Daddy?"

Lucy smiled, sitting down beside them. She reached out to tuck a stray hair behind Lori's ear. "We’ve been thinking about how Daddy will be traveling a lot for work soon, and we don’t want to be apart for long periods. So, we thought of a way we could all stay together and learn new things at the same time."

Timmy’s eyes widened, and he leaned closer. "What is it, Mommy?" he asked, his small voice full of wonder.

Austin took a deep breath, glancing at Lucy before continuing. He felt a surge of anticipation, eager to share their plan. "We’re thinking about homeschooling you both. It means we would be your teachers, and you wouldn’t go to a regular school anymore. Instead, we would travel together, and you would learn from the places we visit."

Lori's face scrunched up in thought. She loved school, but the idea of traveling intrigued her. "Does that mean we won’t see our friends anymore?" she asked, her voice tinged with concern.

Lucy gently placed a hand on Lori’s shoulder, sensing her hesitation. "I know that might sound a little scary," she said softly. "But we’ll make sure to keep in touch with your friends. You can write letters, video chat, and even send postcards from the places we visit."
