Austin found himself sitting on a park bench, the early morning sun casting a golden hue over the landscape. The air was crisp, filled with the scent of fresh grass and blooming flowers. Birds chirped melodiously, their songs harmonizing with the rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze.
Suddenly, a noise behind him caught his attention. *Probably just an animal in the bushes,* he thought, dismissing it quickly. But when the noise came again, this time closer, he turned around, curiosity getting the better of him.
His breath caught in his throat. Standing there, as vibrant and beautiful as he remembered, was his mother, Lori. Her blonde hair, just like his, shimmered in the sunlight, and her blue eyes sparkled with warmth and life. She wore a light summer dress that swayed gently in the breeze, and her smile was as radiant as ever.
"Mom?" Austin whispered, his voice trembling with disbelief.
Lori smiled and walked over to him, her steps light and graceful. She reached out and touched his face, her fingers cool and soft against his skin. "Yes, sweetheart, it's me."
Austin's heart swelled with emotion. He felt tears prickling at the corners of his eyes but held them back. "I... I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything, Austin," Lori replied, her voice soothing and melodic. "I'm here now."
They sat down on the bench together, the world around them seeming to fade away. Austin felt an overwhelming sense of peace wash over him as he took in the details of his mother's appearance. Her eyes were as blue as the sky above them, and they sparkled with a light that seemed to reach into his soul. Her hair, golden and soft, moved gently with the wind, and her touch was warm and reassuring.
"How are Lucy and the kids?" Lori asked, her eyes full of love and curiosity.
"They're wonderful," Austin replied, a smile spreading across his face. "Lucy is as amazing as ever, and the kids... they're growing up so fast. Lori is already seven, and Timmy is four."
Lori's eyes glistened with pride. "I knew you would be a wonderful father, Austin."
Austin's heart ached with a mix of joy and longing. "I miss you so much, Mom."
"I know, sweetheart. But I'm always with you, watching over you," Lori said, her voice gentle and comforting.
Austin took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his emotions. "Do you know about the cookbook Lori and I made?" he asked, his voice filled with excitement but also a touch of sadness.
Lori's smile widened. "Yes, sweetheart, I do. I was with you the whole time. It's beautiful, just like you and little Lori."
Austin felt a tear escape and roll down his cheek. "We wanted to honor you, Mom. Your chocolate chip cookies were legendary."
At this, a vivid flashback washed over Austin. He saw himself as a young man, weary from a long flight back home after filming in New York. The moment he opened the front door, the heavenly scent of chocolate chip cookies greeted him. The memory was so clear, he could almost taste the sweetness.
Young Austin stepped into the kitchen, his eyes lighting up as he saw his mother at the counter, pulling a tray of cookies from the oven. She turned, her face breaking into a joyful smile. "Welcome home, sweetheart! I made your favorite."
He could still hear the excitement in his younger voice as he dropped his bags and rushed to hug her. "Mom, you always know how to make everything better."
Back in the park, Austin smiled at the memory, his eyes meeting Lori's. "I could smell them as soon as I walked through the door. It made me feel like I was really home."
Lori laughed, the sound like a melody to Austin's ears. "I remember. I loved surprising you with them whenever you came home from filming."
Austin looked at his mother, her presence so real and tangible. He felt a profound sense of gratitude for this moment. "Mom, there were times when I felt so lost, and those cookies... they were like a beacon, guiding me back to you, to home."
Lori's eyes softened, and she took his hand in hers. "Sweetheart, you were never lost. You've always been on the right path. And I'm so proud of the man you've become."
They sat in comfortable silence for a while, the park around them serene and still. The sunlight danced through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Austin felt the warmth of his mother's presence, her love enveloping him like a blanket.
"Promise me something, Austin," Lori said softly, breaking the silence.
"Anything, Mom," Austin replied, his voice earnest.
"Promise me you'll always cherish the moments you have with your family. Life is precious and fleeting. Don't let anything take away the joy you have with them."
"I promise, Mom," Austin said, his voice choked with emotion.
Lori leaned in and kissed his forehead. "I love you, my sweet boy. Never forget that."
"I love you too, Mom," Austin whispered, his heart full of gratitude and love.
As the dream began to fade, Austin felt a sense of calm and resolution. He knew that his mother would always be with him, guiding him and loving him from beyond.
When he awoke, the morning light streaming through the window, Austin felt a renewed sense of purpose. He would cherish every moment with his family, just as his mother had asked. And he would carry her love with him always, a beacon of light in his heart.
