A few weeks had passed since the intense night at the warehouse, where Austin, Jason, and Dwayne had saved Lori-Anne. During that time, Lori-Anne had slowly begun to rebuild her sense of self, finding solace in the safety of Austin’s home and the warmth of his family. She had taken time to heal, both physically and emotionally, and now, sitting at the kitchen table one morning, she realized she was ready for the next step.
With a deep breath, Lori-Anne looked over at Austin, who was drinking his coffee, and then glanced at Lucy, who was making breakfast. The sense of normalcy in their home had grounded her in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time. She knew it was time to move forward.
“I think I’m ready,” Lori-Anne said quietly, breaking the silence.
Austin raised an eyebrow, setting down his mug. “Ready for what?”
Lori-Anne smiled a little, her eyes filled with determination. “I’m ready to start looking for a new job. Something that means something to me. I want to make a difference in people’s lives—do something that fills me with purpose and hope.”
Austin nodded, a proud smile spreading across his face. “That’s great, Lori-Anne. I think you’d be amazing at whatever you decide to do. You’ve got a huge heart, and people can see that.”
Lucy joined the conversation, her voice filled with encouragement. “Have you thought about what kind of job you’d want? Something in social work, maybe? Or maybe working with youth or mental health? You have such an inspiring story.”
Lori-Anne’s eyes lit up as she considered Lucy’s words. “Yeah, maybe something like that,” she said, her voice gaining strength. “I’ve been thinking about working at a non-profit, or maybe even starting one, to help people who are going through what I went through. I want to help people feel like they’re not alone.”
Austin gave her a supportive nod. “That’s an amazing idea. You’d be able to reach so many people, and they’d see the strength in your story. If you need help getting started, you know I’ve got your back.”
Lori-Anne felt a surge of hope as she realized this was the direction she wanted to take. “I want to give people that same feeling of support you all gave me. I want to remind them that there’s always hope, no matter how dark things get.”
Lucy smiled warmly. “You’re going to do incredible things, Lori-Anne. I know it.”
With a new sense of purpose, Lori-Anne felt ready to take on whatever came next. The fear and uncertainty that had once consumed her were starting to be replaced by hope and a vision for the future—one where she could truly make a difference.
After weeks of thoughtful reflection, Lori-Anne finally made her decision. With the unwavering support of Austin and Lucy, she decided to embark on a new journey—one that would allow her to give back to the world. Together, they came up with the idea of starting a nonprofit organization that would help people in need, focusing not just on addiction and mental health, but on overall health and well-being. It would be a place where people could find hope and healing, just as Lori-Anne had.
One sunny morning, the three of them gathered in the living room, their laptops and notebooks spread across the table as they began researching how to bring Lori-Anne’s vision to life. The sound of birds chirping outside provided a calming backdrop, while the sunlight streaming in through the windows made the moment feel full of possibility.
“So, where do we start?” Lori-Anne asked, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as she looked at Austin and Lucy.
Austin, sitting next to her, smiled reassuringly. “First, we need to figure out the basics. Mission statement, vision, and who exactly we want to help.”
