The next day, after countless tests and finally finding the right dosage of medication for Lucy, the doctor entered her room with a clipboard in hand. “Good morning, Lucy. How are you doing today?” he asked, his tone friendly.

With a hint of frustration in her voice, Lucy replied, “I’m ready to go home and feeling like a pincushion.” She gestured to her arms, which were dotted with the marks from IVs and blood tests.

The doctor chuckled softly, recognizing her exasperation. “I can understand that. Well, your test results are looking good, so I think I’ll change your medication to pills instead of IV. That means you can go home today!”

Lucy’s face brightened at the news, but she quickly remembered the doctor’s follow-up. “But it’s important to remember to take your medication every day at the exact same time.”

Lucy grinned, seizing the moment for a bit of humor. “So, basically, like birth control?”

The doctor raised an eyebrow, a smile creeping onto his face. “Exactly! Consistency is key. Just think of it as a daily reminder to take care of yourself.”

Austin, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, laughed along with Lucy. “Well, at least this time it’s for your health and not just for… well, you know.”

Lucy chuckled, feeling lighter with the banter. “I’ll set an alarm on my phone. No way I’m messing this up!”

“Good plan,” the doctor said, pleased with her attitude. “I’ll have the nurse bring in the discharge papers, and then you’ll be on your way.”

As the doctor left the room, Lucy felt a mix of relief and excitement. The thought of going home filled her with hope, and she knew she could tackle her recovery with the support of Austin and her new lucky ring.

As the doctor left, Lucy felt a rush of excitement mixed with nervous energy. The prospect of going home was exhilarating, but the lingering worry about managing her health on her own still hung in the air.

Austin noticed her expression and moved closer. “Hey, you okay?” he asked, concern etched on his face.

“Yeah, I just… I can’t believe it’s finally happening,” Lucy replied, her voice a blend of relief and apprehension. “I’m excited but also a little scared about being responsible for my meds.”

Austin smiled reassuringly. “You’ve got this, Lucy. We’ll figure it out together. Plus, with that lucky ring on your finger, you’re bound to be just fine.”

At that moment, the nurse entered with a stack of papers. “Good news! We have everything ready for your discharge. You’ll need to sign a few forms, and then you can head home.”

Lucy nodded, her heart racing. “Thank you so much!”

As she signed the documents, she felt a sense of closure to this chapter of her life. Each stroke of the pen felt like a step toward reclaiming her independence. Once everything was in order, the nurse handed her a small bag containing her new medication.

“Remember, take these at the same time every day,” the nurse reiterated, her tone encouraging. “And don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.”

“I won’t,” Lucy promised, her determination growing stronger.

After a few final checks, Lucy was finally ready to leave. Austin helped her gather her things, and they made their way to the exit. As they stepped outside, the bright sunlight greeted them, warming Lucy’s face.

“Home sweet home,” Austin said, grinning as they walked toward the car.

Lucy took a deep breath, feeling the fresh air fill her lungs. “I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed again. And maybe binge-watch some shows without interruptions!”
