The next morning, Lucy woke up feeling a bit of fatigue, but it was nothing compared to the day before. She glanced over at the chair where Austin usually slept and noticed he wasn’t there. A small wave of concern washed over her, but she quickly shifted her focus to the table in front of her, where she spotted a note.

Curious, she picked it up and read:

*Hey, Lucy!*

*I’ve gone out to get something for you and will be back soon. Don’t worry! I know you well enough to know that you probably will, but just remember, I’m right here for you. You’re stronger than you think!*

*Love you, Austin*

A smile crept across her face as she read his words. His thoughtfulness always managed to lift her spirits. She felt a warmth in her heart, knowing he was looking out for her.

Setting the note down, she took a moment to breathe, feeling grateful for his presence in her life. She stretched a bit, feeling the fatigue slowly dissipate. It was a new day, and she was determined to make the most of it, even if it started with a little uncertainty.

After a few moments, Lucy decided to get up and freshen up. She knew that no matter what the day held, she had Austin by her side, and that made all the difference.

A little while later, Austin finally returned to the hospital with a surprise. As he walked through the door, he found Lucy sitting in bed, munching on a chicken salad that a nurse had brought her. The moment she saw him, her face lit up.

“Baby, you’re back!” she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy. Then, in a playful tone, she added, “I was beginning to get worried.”

Austin shook his head with a smile. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay,” Lucy replied, her voice brightening. “I woke up feeling a bit of fatigue, but nothing compared to yesterday.”

Leaning over, Austin gave her a kiss on the lips, letting it linger a bit longer than usual. Lucy felt a rush of warmth and comfort from the simple gesture.

After pulling back, she looked at him curiously. “Where did you go?”

“I went home to check on the kids and make sure the house was still standing,” he said with a chuckle. “You know how chaotic it can get when I’m not around.”

Lucy laughed softly. “I can only imagine! How are they doing?”

“They’re good,” Austin replied, settling into the chair beside her. “I brought back some of their drawings for you to see. They miss you a lot.”

“Oh, that’s sweet!” she said, her heart swelling at the thought. “I can’t wait to see them.”

Austin reached into his bag and pulled out a few colorful drawings, handing them to Lucy. “They wanted to make sure you knew they were thinking of you.”

As Lucy looked at the drawings, she felt a rush of love for her family. “These are amazing! I love how creative they are.”

“Just like their mom,” Austin said, his eyes twinkling with pride.

Lucy smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over her. With Austin by her side and their kids’ love surrounding her, she felt stronger and ready to face whatever the day had in sttimes.
After showing Lucy the drawings, Austin asked her, “How is your salad?”

“Good,” Lucy replied, taking another bite.

Austin raised an eyebrow playfully. “But is it as good as mine?”

Lucy looked at him, a teasing smile on her lips. “Austin Robert, when have you EVER made me a salad?”

He laughed, holding up his hands in mock surrender. “Okay, fair point! I might not be the salad-making expert, but you have to admit, I make a mean sandwich.”
