After unpacking, Lucy and Austin made their way over to the cabin next door, eager to see what Lori, Timmy, and their friends were up to. As they approached, the sounds of laughter and lively chatter filled the air, making Lucy smile.
When they stepped inside, they found everyone gathered around the dining table, animatedly discussing their plans for the rest of the day. Lori and Timmy were sitting with a couple of their friends, their faces lit up with excitement.
“Hey, you two!” Lori called out, waving them over. “We were just talking about what to do first!”
“Yeah, we were thinking about going swimming in the lake!” Timmy added, his eyes shining. “It’s supposed to be really fun!”
Lucy looked at Austin, who nodded in agreement. “That sounds great! We can all go together,” he said, leaning against the doorway.
One of Timmy’s friends chimed in, “We could also have a picnic by the water! I brought sandwiches and snacks!”
“Perfect!” Lori exclaimed. “Let’s do that! We can swim, then eat, and maybe play some games afterward.”
Lucy felt a wave of warmth at the sight of her kids so happy and engaged. “That sounds like an amazing plan! We’ll grab some towels and sunscreen, and then we can head down to the lake.”
As they gathered the essentials, Lucy couldn’t help but feel grateful for this moment—her family together, surrounded by nature and laughter. She turned to Austin, who was packing a cooler with drinks. “Thank you for making this weekend so special,” she said, her eyes softening.
Austin looked up, smiling. “I just wanted to create some great memories for all of us. I’m glad it’s turning out so well.”
Once they were all set, the group made their way to the lake, the excitement palpable. The sun shone brightly, and the water glistened invitingly. Lucy felt a sense of freedom wash over her as they reached the shore.
“Race you to the water!” Timmy shouted, taking off with his friends, laughter trailing behind him. Lori followed, and soon the sound of splashes filled the air.
Lucy and Austin exchanged amused glances before joining in the fun. As they all dove into the cool water, the worries of everyday life melted away, replaced by joy and the promise of adventure. This weekend was just beginning, and Lucy couldn’t wait to see what else it had in store.
Under the Moonlight
After a delightful dinner, the moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the lake and illuminating the path back to their cabin. As they walked, Lucy turned to the kids, a playful smile on her face. “Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
Timmy, ever the jokester with a wit reminiscent of his father, replied without missing a beat, “Don’t worry! We’ll only stay up until tomorrow!”
At that, Lucy and Austin burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the evening air. It was moments like these that made her heart swell with joy.
“Goodnight, you two!” Lori called, rolling her eyes playfully at her brother’s antics. She and her friends waved as they headed toward their own cabin, leaving Lucy and Austin to enjoy the quiet of the night.
Hand in hand, they strolled back to their cabin, the soft crunch of leaves underfoot and the gentle lapping of the lake creating a serene soundtrack. “I love how much fun they’re having,” Lucy said, glancing up at Austin. “It’s so nice to see them so carefree.”
Austin smiled, his eyes warm. “They deserve it. And it’s great to see you so happy too.”
Once inside, they kicked off their shoes and settled onto the cozy couch, the glow of the fireplace casting a warm light around the room. Lucy leaned against Austin, feeling content as they watched the flames dance.
