The next morning, Lucy stirred awake, the bright sunlight streaming through the window, but it did little to lift her spirits. After a restless night filled with nurses coming in every couple of hours to check her vitals, she felt more tired than she was used to. Beside her, Austin was slumped in the chair, his hair tousled and dark circles under his eyes betraying his own fatigue.

“Hey,” he murmured, blinking as he woke up. “How are you feeling?”

Lucy sighed, rubbing her eyes. “I think I’m more tired than before. It was hard to sleep with everyone coming in.”

“I know,” Austin said, running a hand through his hair. “But at least they’re keeping an eye on you.”

Just then, a doctor entered the room, clipboard in hand. “Good morning, Lucy! How are you feeling today?”

Lucy took a moment to gather her thoughts. “A bit tired, but I guess that’s to be expected. I’ve had a lot on my mind.”

The doctor nodded, making notes. “That’s understandable. I’d like to ask you a few questions to assess your condition. Can you tell me if you remember anything from yesterday?”

Lucy hesitated, trying to piece together the fragmented memories. “All I remember is talking with my husband about what to cook for lunch when all of a sudden I felt dizzy… then everything went black.”

The doctor’s expression turned serious but gentle. “Thank you for sharing that. It’s important for us to understand what happened. Have you experienced dizziness like that before?”

Lucy nodded slowly. “Yes, but I always thought it was just stress or being tired. I didn’t realize it could be something more serious.”

The doctor continued with a series of questions, asking about her medical history, any previous episodes, and her general health. Lucy did her best to answer, feeling a mix of vulnerability and determination. She wanted to understand what was happening to her body.

Once the questions were done, the doctor smiled reassuringly. “We’re going to run some more tests today to get a clearer picture of your thyroid function and overall health. It’s good that we’re finally getting to the bottom of this. You’re in the right place.”

As he left the room, Lucy turned to Austin, who had been quietly listening. “I can’t believe I let it get this far without knowing,” she said, frustration creeping into her voice.

“Hey,” Austin said softly, taking her hand. “You didn’t know. You’ve been juggling so much, and it’s easy to overlook things when you’re busy taking care of everyone else. The important thing is that we’re here now, and we’re going to figure this out together.”

Lucy looked into his eyes, feeling a swell of gratitude. “Thank you for being here. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Austin smiled, brushing his thumb over her hand. “You’ll never have to find out. We’re a team, remember? Just focus on getting better, and I’ll handle everything else.”

As the morning progressed, Lucy felt a mix of anxiety and hope. While the uncertainty of her diagnosis loomed over her, she found comfort in Austin’s unwavering support. They would face this challenge together, one step at at time.

Later that afternoon, after a series of tests and more questions, the doctor returned, his demeanor both professional and hopeful. “Lucy, I’d like to discuss a potential treatment option with you. Based on what we’ve learned from your tests, I’d like to try an experimental medication. I’ve done some research, and I believe this could be worth a try.”

Lucy felt a rush of mixed emotions—hope, fear, and uncertainty swirling within her. The idea of an experimental medication was daunting. “What does that involve?” she asked cautiously, her heart racing.
