The sun streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow in the bedroom. Lucy stirred awake, but as she opened her eyes, a wave of dizziness washed over her. She sat up slowly, feeling a heaviness in her chest and a dull ache in her head. Not again, she thought, recalling the last few days of fatigue and discomfort. Austin, already awake, noticed her struggle. “Hey, you okay?” he asked gently, concern etched across his face.“I don’t know,” Lucy admitted, rubbing her temples. “I just feel… off. Tired and a bit dizzy.”Austin sat up, his expression shifting to one of worry. “Maybe you should see a doctor. It’s been a while since you’ve felt like yourself.”Lucy hesitated, biting her lip. “I don’t want to go. It’s probably nothing.” “Aren’t you the one who always says it’s better to be safe than sorry?” he replied softly, reaching out to hold her hand. “I can’t help but worry about you.”She sighed, knowing he was right but reluctant to face the doctor’s office. Just then, a soft whimper came from down the hall. “And Noah’s sick with that sinus infection,” she said, glancing at the door. “I can’t leave him alone.”“Why don’t we ask Ashley to come with you?” Austin suggested. “She can help with Noah, and you won’t have to go alone.”Lucy considered it for a moment. “Yeah, that might work.”After a quick call to Austin’s sister, Ashley arrived within the hour, her cheerful demeanor a welcome distraction. “Hey, how’s my favorite family?” she greeted, bending down to give Noah a gentle hug.“Just trying to get Lucy to the doctor,” Austin said, looking at Lucy with a mix of encouragement and concern. Ashley turned to Lucy, her eyes softening. “You ready to go?”Lucy hesitated again, feeling a knot in her stomach. “I don’t know, Ash. What if it’s nothing? I hate going to the doctor.”Ashley placed a reassuring hand on Lucy’s shoulder. “It’s okay to feel nervous. But you know what? You deserve to feel better. And I’ll be right there with you.”Lucy took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of Ashley’s support. “Thanks. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”Touched, Ashley leaned in for a hug. “No problem. That’s what family is for.”With a newfound sense of determination, Lucy nodded. “Alright, let’s do this.”

The Doctor’s Visit.

They made their way to the car, Lucy feeling a mix of gratitude and apprehension. As they drove to the clinic, Ashley chatted about lighthearted topics, trying to ease Lucy’s worries. Upon arriving, Lucy’s heart raced as they entered the building. The waiting room was filled with the usual sounds of rustling papers and soft conversations. Lucy took a deep breath, her nerves creeping back.“Let’s get you checked in,” Ashley said, guiding her toward the receptionist’s desk. Lucy approached, her palms sweaty as she registered her name and reason for the visit.“Do you have your insurance card?” the receptionist asked, and Lucy fumbled in her bag, feeling a wave of anxiety wash over her.“Here,” she said, handing over the card, her voice barely above a whisper.“Great, just have a seat, and they’ll call you shortly,” the receptionist replied with a smile. As they settled into their seats, Ashley leaned closer. “You’re doing great, Lucy. Just take it one step at a time.”Lucy nodded, grateful for her sister-in-law’s presence. “I really appreciate you being here. It means a lot.”“Of course! We’ll get through this together,” Ashley said, her voice steady and reassuring. Minutes felt like hours, but finally, a nurse called Lucy’s name. She stood up, heart pounding, and glanced back at Ashley. “Here we go.” “You’ve got this!” Ashley encouraged, giving her a thumbs-up. Taking a deep breath, Lucy walked toward the nurse, feeling a mix of fear and hope. With Ashley by her side, she felt a little less alone as they entered the examination room, ready to face whatever lay ahead.

The Waiting Game

Once inside the exam room, Lucy took a seat on the examination table, her heart racing. The nurse entered, her demeanor professional yet warm. “Hi, I’m Sarah. I’ll be taking your vitals today,” she said with a reassuring smile.Lucy nodded, trying to relax as Sarah checked her blood pressure and pulse. “You’re a bit elevated,” the nurse noted, jotting down numbers on her clipboard. “How have you been feeling?” “Just really tired and dizzy,” Lucy replied, her voice shaky. “And a little anxious about being here.”“That’s completely understandable,” Sarah said, her tone comforting. “Do you have any other symptoms, like fever or aches?”Lucy shook her head. “No fever, just… fatigue.”After a few more questions, the nurse finished up and stepped out, promising the doctor would be in shortly. As Lucy waited, she felt the weight of uncertainty settle over her.“Just a few minutes,” Ashley whispered, sitting close beside her. “You’re doing great.”But those few minutes felt like an eternity. Lucy fidgeted with her hands, glancing around the room at the medical posters and equipment. Finally, the door opened, and Dr. Smith walked in with a friendly smile.“Good morning, Lucy! I’m Dr. Smith,” he said, extending a hand. “I hear you’ve been feeling under the weather.”“Yeah, just really tired and dizzy,” Lucy admitted, feeling slightly more at ease. Dr. Smith nodded, his expression thoughtful as he asked a series of questions about her symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. After a thorough discussion, he leaned back in his chair. “Based on what you’ve described, I’d like to order some blood tests to help us figure out what’s going on.”Lucy swallowed hard, the thought of needles making her uneasy. “Okay… Is it serious?” “We’ll find out more once we get the results,” he reassured her. “It could be something simple, but it’s best to rule out any underlying issues.”With a nod, Lucy agreed, and the nurse returned to take her blood. As the needle pricked her arm, she focused on Ashley, who held her hand tightly, offering silent support.
