CHAPTER 5

San

I can't believe I kissed her. It all went so fast, I haven't been able to process everything yet.
Wooyoung is gonna freak out if he finds out things still happened after the whole speech I gave him last time.

San : Maybe we should go downstairs, people are gonna be looking for you.
Younha : Let them look, I want to stay here with you.

I let out a laugh and look down on the beautiful girl laying her back on my chest, her legs sitting between mine, my hand in her's.

San : Fine, just five more minutes.
Younha : How about five more lives ?
San : Sounds nice. So, what are we telling Hongjoong and Seonghwa ?
Younha : Don't think about it yet, just enjoy this evening.
San : Is that a one night thing ?
Younha : Not for me.
San : Good.

We suddenly hear some footsteps and voices behind us, coming from the entry to the roof. We both turn around and see Wooyoung and Yeosang coming towards us.

Wooyoung : Are you kidding me ?!

Younha just smiles and slightly tightens her hold around my hand.

Wooyoung : Choi San, you bastard ! You told me that nothing was gonna happen yet !
San : I was wrong, don't yell at me !
Yeosang : Younha, are you drunk ?
Younha : What ?
Yeosang : You're usually way too shy to do that kind of thing.
Younha : I'm not drunk, I just had enough alcohol to have the guts to ask the right questions.
Yeosang : Whatever that means. I need you to come down, we're gonna cut your cake.
Younha : Do I have to ?
Yeosang : Yes, it's the only thing I'll force you to do tonight. I spent three hours on that cake !
Younha : Fine, I'm coming.

She gets up and starts following her brother back inside the apartment.
I stay on the floor a few more seconds, a bit sceptical about the situation.
She drank alcohol, I thought she was completely sober so completely willing to kiss me. What if she wasn't ? That whole night might have been a terrible mistake, maybe she didn't actually want it to happen.

Wooyoung : You coming or what ?
San : Yeah, sorry.

We go back inside where Yeosang has already gathered everyone around Younha.
Hongjoong comes out of the kitchen with the cake and everyone sings happy birthday to her. The moment of blowing the candles comes and right before she does that, she looks at me and smiles.
Everyone applauds after the candles are out and they start handing out presents to Younha.
Meanwhile, Seonghwa comes up to me.

Seonghwa : Where were you for half an hour ?
San : Oh, we were on the roof, just taking some fresh air.
Seonghwa : Right, just taking some fresh air. Nothing else happened ?
San : I just comforted Younha because she's had a rough day.
Seonghwa : Whatever you're not telling me, she will.
San : I don't know if she wants to talk about it yet, I have to respect that.
Seonghwa : I hate how respectful you are to her, it's making it very hard for me to hate you for being the love interest of my little Younha.
San : I'm...sorry ?
Seonghwa : Don't be and take good care of her.

A few moments pass and Younha comes to see me.

Younha : I couldn't see you anywhere, I thought you left without telling me.
San : I wouldn't do that when I still have a birthday present for you.
Younha : What ? Sannie, you know you didn't have to bring me anything.
San : You deserve it.

I hand her the poorly packaged present and she opens it with a smile.

Younha : San, it's beautiful !

She takes the necklace out of it's box and looks at it closer.
It's a simple silver chain with a small flower pendent. It's a pink peony.

Younha : Help me to put it on.

I grab it and attach it around her neck.

Younha : I love it, thank you so much.

She puts her arms around my waist goes to kiss me but this time, I back up a little.

Younha : Is something wrong ?
San : No, it's not important.
Younha : Talk to me, what's happening ?
San : Are you drunk ?
Younha : You heard what I told Yeosang, I'm not. I just had a few drinks but not enough to be drunk.
San : Are you sure ? I really don't wanna be doing that you might not be totally okay to do.
Younha : Are you saying you can't trust me because I might be drunk, even though I clearly told you I wasn't ?
San : That's not what I meant, I'm just looking out for you. I don't want to abuse you or anything !
Younha : I agreed to everything that happened tonight, and trust me you would notice if I was drunk !
San : I'm sorry for having doubts.
Younha : Doubts ? Are you saying that tonight was a mistake ?!
San : It might have been if you weren't fully aware of what you were doing !
Younha : I was aware ! You know what, I'm not doing this now, thank you for coming, thank you for the gift but it's time for me to go home.

She leaves the apartment a few minutes later, still mad at me. Good job San, you ruined everything again.
I couldn't just shut my mouth and kiss her, I had to go all overthinking on her.

Wooyoung : Hey, where's your girlfriend ?
San : She's not my girlfriend, and she left. I should do the same.
