CHAPTER 18

Younha

A few days after meeting the FBI, they contacted us to ask us the questions they need to go forward with the investigation.
San and I just arrived at the address they gave us and we quickly got separated in two different rooms.
There isn't any decorations or whatsoever, just a desk and a chair at each ends.
They make me sit on one of those and tell me to wait a moment.
A few seconds later, Mingi enters the room with a file and sits in front of me.

Mingi : Hi Younha, how are you doing today ?
Younha : A little anxious.
Mingi : I understand but don't worry, everything will pass by just fine.
Younha : I'm already reassured to be with someone I met already.
Mingi : Yeah, we thought that might've helped. San is with my colleague, Jeong Yunho, in the room right next to ours. He will get the same interrogation as you but with different questions.
Younha : Okay, thank you.
Mingi : So, are you ready to start ?
Younha : I am.
Mingi : As I told you last time, I'm gonna ask a couple of questions about what happened at the shop and really don't hesitate to tell me all the details you remember, anything can be helpful. Now just so you know, for safety reasons, this interview will be recorded, audio and video.
Younha : Okay, that's fine.
Mingi : If at any moment you need a break, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Younha : Thank you.
Mingi : Let's get to it. First question is, how did you know that man was San's brother ?
Younha : When he came in, he first said he was looking for me and then he asked where was San. I said I didn't know him but he knew we were dating and asked the question again by adding "where's my brother". That's when I knew.
Mingi : I see. Can you describe him for me ?
Younha : He was very tall, at least 185cm, with brown hair and very dark eyes, almost black. He was wearing a black trench coat and a suit underneath, also black. He had a short beard, as if he didn't shave it for a few days and it was starting to grow back.
Mingi : Yeah, that's our guy. How was his tone towards you ?
Younha : At first, he was very respectful, almost nice. Then, he understood that I was lying and he became more serious and threatening.
Mingi : Lying ?
Younha : Yes, I first told him that I didn't know San and then I just told him that I didn't know where he was and I insisted on this, that's why he started everything.
Mingi : Why didn't you tell him where San was ?
Younha : We just learnt that his brother is a murderer, I wasn't going to let him near San without knowing what he wanted from him !
Mingi : Of course, you wanted to protect him. How did you know that Choi Hyeonsok was alive and a criminal ?
Younha : I don't know if I can answer this.
Mingi : Are you trying to protect someone again ?
Younha : I guess I am, they came to warn us about Hyeonsok so I owe them that much.
Mingi : Then don't tell me their name but I need to know what happened.
Younha : They are a relative of San but he didn't know about them before they came to our apartment to talk to him. I don't know if they're part of the mafia or not.
Mingi : If they are and we're able to get to Hyeonsok, we'll probably arrest them anyway. But if they're not involved, they will be safe.
Younha : Thank you for understanding. When they talked to us, they explained us that San's brother was alive and he escaped their parents murder by going to their house where were San's aunt and uncle, who he didn't know about either. They sheltered him and kept in touch with him until now. That person came to warn us that Hyeonsok was looking for San and that he was ready to kill or hurt anyone who would stand in his way.
Mingi : Do you know anything about San's aunt and uncle ?
Younha : No, I don't even know their names. I'm sorry but that's all I can tell you about San's family, I don't know anything else about them.
Mingi : It's okay, you already gave us a lot of information. One last question though, and you might not like it. Do you think, maybe, San could be a part of the mafia and just didn't tell you anything ?
Younha : Well...I can't say it's impossible. But I know him, I can usually tell when he's lying. And he was just as surprised as me when he learnt his brother was alive.
Mingi : Should I take it as a no ?
Younha : From everything I know about him, he's not part of that mafia.
Mingi : That's all I needed to know, thank you very much for your help and your honesty.
Younha : Do you know if San is done ?
Mingi : Not yet but it won't take long, you can just wait for him outside.
