CHAPTER 15

San

The police and ambulance arrived a few minutes ago and they quickly took care of Seonghwa. Now, they are trying to talk with Younha but she's so shaken up that she doesn't seem able to tell them anything.
I approach them and ask the police officers to give me a moment with her, which they do.
I seat next to her, on the ground right next to the shop.

San : How are you doing ?
Younha : Bad, I thought I was gonna die, we were all going to die.
San : We're alive, Seonghwa's in the ambulance on his way to the hospital and everything will be fine.
Younha : I thought I was gonna lose the most precious persons in my life.
San : I'm right here, I'm with you.
Younha : You're really okay with all that happened ?
San : No, I'm not. But I have to stay strong, for you, so that you can feel and accept all those shitty emotions that are unfortunately part of our lives.
Younha : How did you feel while it happened ?
San : I've never been more scared in my life, I was afraid of opening my door and seeing both of you dead. Now, I can understand why you didn't want me to go to my old house, I'm so sorry I made you feel that way.
Younha : That doesn't matter anymore.

I grab her hand and she lets her head fall against my shoulder. She takes a few deep breath to calm herself from crying.

San : Do you think you can tell me what happened ? And I will talk to the officers myself.
Younha : It was your brother.

He found me.

Younha : He knew we were dating and he asked me where you were, I refused to tell him.
San : Why ?
Younha : To protect you. But he was not alone and they were all armed. I called Hwa, he tried to protect and he wanted to reach for his phone to call for help when they shot him.

She looks at her free hand for a second, still full of Seonghwa's dried blood.

San : We're going home soon, don't worry, you can clean up then. I'll go talk to the police officers quickly, okay ? Just to tell them what happened. Will you be fine ?

She slowly nods her head and I get up to talk to an officer. I explain him quickly what happened and he calls for another man, wearing a sharp suit. He signals me to follow him to a calm corner.

??? : My name is Jeong Yunho, I work with the FBI and precisely on the mafia cases.
San : Mafia ?
Yunho : I understood your brother, Choi Hyeonsok, was implied in this scene.
San : He caused it.
Yunho : Well your brother is at the top of one of biggest mafia gang of Korea.
San : So he's a murderer and he's head of a mafia gang ?!
Yunho : As were your parents, that gang was actually founded by your family.
San : You're telling me my parents were rich because they were part of a mafia ?
Yunho : Exactly, that's also what got them killed, a rival gang decided to take out their opponent, not in a peaceful way. Your brother, Choi Hyeonsok, managed to escape the offenders and found exile with the rest of your family, meaning the rest of the gang.
San : How do you want me to believe all of that ?!
Yunho : You don't have to believe me, we'll investigate anyway. You can either collaborate or we'll have to force you, and your girlfriend, to talk.
San : Talk about what, we don't know anything else.
Yunho : You can help us find your brother and arrest him.

Get Hyeonsok arrested ? He's my older brother, I can't do that to him.
But, as Younha said, I don't know him anymore, he's a stranger who tried to kill my coworkers. That asshole is going to jail, if I don't have an occasion to kill him first.

San : I'll do it, and I will talk to Younha about it, but I think she'll be on board.
Yunho : We'll come back to you in a few days, when this scene will be clear. Meanwhile, let me give you my card, if you hear back from him call me.
San : I will, thank you.

I grab his card and he goes back to other officers. I should check on Younha.

I approach her and suddenly hear some quick footsteps behind me.

Hongjoong : Younha, San ! I spoke to an officer, he told me what happened, are you guys okay ?!
Younha : Joong !

She gets up and runs towards him who hugs her tightly, clearly reassured to see her safe.

Hongjoong : You're not hurt anywhere, are you ?
San : No, we're okay.
Younha : But Hwa's in the hospital.
Hongjoong : I know, they told me about it, apparently he's okay.
Younha : What a relief...
Hongjoong : Go pick up your stuff inside and go rest at home, I'll take it from here.
San : Thank you.

We go back in the shop where all of the front is damaged. We quickly get our stuff and I go outside but Younha stops for a minute and looks around her before locking her eyes on something. I go near her and see what she was staring at, a white roses bouquet that was waiting to get picked up, stained with Seonghwa's blood.

Younha : Now I see what you mean.
San : Don't worry, he's fine.
Younha : I hope so.
San : Let's go home.
Younha : Can I come with you ? I don't want to stay alone.
San : Of course, do you want to swing by your place first, to get some clean clothes ?
Younha : Yeah, let's go.
