PROLOGUE

Slipping into my seat beside Claire, I felt a smile tug at my lips.

"I heard Patrick is going to ask you to be his girlfriend," Claire teased me, sticking her tongue out.

"Shut up," I rolled my eyes playfully, feeling my heart swell with happiness.

I had liked Patrick for forever. We were only kids but he had been my biggest crush for all of primary school.

"I'm serious, Gerard told me," Claire insisted, making me smile harder.

Turning my head to look at the group of boys I blushed at the sight of Patrick who was surrounded by Gerard, Hughie, their new friend Johnny and a few others.

I watched as he got up from the table with two guys following after him.

"Go talk to him," Claire smiled at me.

"Really?" I felt my stomach fill with nerves.

"Go for it!" Lizzie nodded gesturing to Patrick.

Forcing myself up from the table I made it into the hallways, that were practically empty as everyone was in the lunch hall eating.

I peeked around the corner to see Patrick with two of his friends, a blonde and a redhead. A smile immediately appeared on my face at the sight of him.

"Are you really asking out Scarlett?" The blonde friend laughed, the other joining in.

"Well," Patrick began but was cut off by the redhead, "she's weird lad. She's always crying about water or something."

The blonde nodded his head laughing loudly.

"You're right. I was only going to ask her out because I feel bad that her dad died," Patrick muttered.

My smile dropped at the same time my heart cracked in two.

I wiped the tear that had fallen onto my cheek with the back of my hand and turned on my heel.

I yanked open the door to the girls toilets and sank into a stall before breaking down.

Patrick Feely was not my crush anymore.
In fact he wasn't even my friend.

I despised him.

And I always would.
