THE BOLTER; Taylor Swift

"By all accounts, she almost drowned
When she was six in frigid water."

"Splendidly selfish, charmingly helpless
Excellent fun 'til you get to know her."

"But as she was leaving
It felt like breathing."

Patrick

I was exhausted.

I had stayed up nearly all night, trying to figure out what the hell happened last night.

Not only did Scarlett throw up, cry and run away from me, she also looked sufficiently terrified.

Not to mention that she flinched when I touched her, actually jumped.

I had no idea what to make of this so I was really only left with one choice:

Talk to her.

Walking up the steps of her front porch, I lifted my fist to knock when the door swung open.

Scarlett stood in the doorway before stepping outside and pulling the door closed behind her.

She must've seen me pull up.

My eyes scanned her face, which looked alarmingly pale and her eyes were puffy and surrounded by dark circles.

Something had clearly happened last night.
Something bad.

She looked to me, crossing her arms over her chest before speaking, "We need to talk."

I didn't like the sound of that.

"Yeah," I bit my cheek, feeling my stomach fill with nerves.

"I don't think I can be in this relationship," Scarlett said so quietly, I almost didn't hear her.

But unfortunately I did.

"Scar," My voice cracked, "Why? Did something happen?"

"No," She was fighting tears, "I just need to deal with my shit before I can be with anyone."

"What shit? I can help," I insisted, grabbing her hands with mine.

"Patrick," She swallowed hard, a tear falling onto her cheek, "I'm sorry, but this is for the best."

No.
No, it's not.

I felt a familiar lump form in my throat and I fought to swallow it.

"Baby, please," I begged, "We can get through anything."

"I can't," Her voice wobbled as she spoke.

She couldn't end things.
I would get on my knees and beg if that's what it took.

All I wanted was her.
She was all I ever wanted.

"I'm sorry," She whispered, letting go of my hands and turning to the door.
