Sitting in my kitchen with my Mam and Claire's Mam, Sinead, I pretended to listen to whatever they were chatting about.

But I honestly didn't care.

Patrick and I had been texting since our hook up, or in other words, sexting.

However, I had yet to get him alone since.

"I'm rich!" Claire cheered as she bounced into my kitchen, "I had the best first day ever at work, I made forty euro, and I get to go to two birthday parties today!"

"Hi Claire," I smiled as she spun around the kitchen.

"Hi Scar," She grinned, coming over to give me a hug.

"Claire," Sinead smiled, "You're full of beans."

"Two birthday parties," Claire stated again, "Today is a good day to be me, Mam." She grabbed a bottle of juice from the fridge and smiled at my Mam, "Hi, Mammy Number 2."

"Hello, Claire, pet," Mam called as she continued to ice Hughie's birthday cake.

It was Hugh's eighteenth birthday today, meaning we were all headed to the Biggs to get shit faced later tonight. But not before attending Shannon's brother, Sean's fourth birthday party.

"It's hard to believe it, isn't it, Sinead? That this day eighteen years ago, you were in the throes of labor with our little Hugo boss-man."

Claire and I both gave each other looks of disgust at the prospect of giving birth.

"Jesus, don't remind me, Sadhbh," Sinead laughed, "Sixty-two hours of labor only to end up having an emergency cesarean section." She then shook her head and added, "Pete passed out and chipped his collarbone on the metal tray going down."

"And Joe ended up sitting at his bedside in the A & E for the night. I remember it well," Mam grinned, "I was only a few months along with Gerard and absolutely petrified of what was to come."

"Ah, we figured it out along the way, didn't we?" Sinead chuckled.

"We sure did."

"Did you use the red velvet base I made?" Claire asked, as she watched Mam icing the cake.

"I sure did!"

"Yay!" Claire squealed.

"Yes! A cake Claire made, I can get behind that," I clapped.

"The texture was so rich," Mam added, "The perfect consistency."

"You know, it was Gerard who told me to add the vinegar to the batter," Claire explained, "I thought he was crazy, but it was genius."

"Oh, you should see him at the bakery," Mam agreed, "He spent the entire summer coming up with new recipes, and I have to tell you girls, each one was better than the last, which is amazing considering he couldn't turn on a microwave before the summer."

"It's true," I shrugged, "The boys talented."

I thought back to all the yummy baked goods Gerard would come home with for me.
