Sitting in between the two older sisters, with Umiko and the older brother sitting across from Genos, steaming hot cups of tea in each of their hands. "So... Genos. You're a hero? You don't look anything special." Said Shui, taking a casual drink from the piping hot tea. "Shui! Please don't be disrespectful in my apartment. I may not live with you all, but I still follow the same rules." Umiko demanded, punching Shui in his shoulder.
"Ow. And why can't I speak my mind? You two dont have anything together, right?" Shui hissed.
"If we're getting rude here, I would like to ask why you look. Nothing like Umiko. You're pale with straight black hair." Genos asked. He obviously knew the answer, with genetics and whatnot. "Really? Dude, our dad was a pasty pale ginger. Mom was a six foot five tall Nigerian." Shui rolled his eyes. "Do the math, dipshit-" that earned a smack to the upside of his head.
"Language! Stop cursing." Umiko demanded, fuming. "Sorry." Shui mumbled. "But seriously, why DID you run away?" Marina demanded, drinking her piping hot tea.
"I-"
"Was it because we called you stupid?"
"No! It's be-"
"Did Nadia embarrass you in public with her singing or something?"
"It's- good golly GEE! Never mind." Umiko sighed. "I just don't wanna talk about it right now, okay?!" Umiko yelled, Getting up. She quickly turned her attention to Genos. "I'm sorry they decided to show up and bother you. Can I come over tomorrow?" She asked him. "Of course, Umiko. I'll see you tomorrow. And it was nice meeting you three." He bowed to them.
Nadia, the prima Donna, her eyebrows twitched. "See you tomorrow?! SEE YOU TOMORROW!? Are you two really 'just friends'?!" She demanded, her feather boa seeming to fluff itself up in response to her dramatics. As she yelled at Genos, who was standing up.
"We didn't put an exact 'label' on our relationship. But we did kiss a little earlier today-" Genos's words were cut off by Umiko clamping her hand over his mouth, loudly and awkwardly laughing. "Okay! Let's get going now!" She giggled, trying to get Genos out of the room.
"Kiss? You kissed the baby!?" Marina gasped. "Marina! I'm sixteen! Not six! I can make my own decisions!" Umiko shot back.
"And why are you three here in the first place?! To bring me back home?" Umiko asked while she stood at her door with the cyborg at her side.
"Why of course! We have no other reason to leave K city besides a vacation!" Marina replied, standing up.
"You belong home, with your FAMILY, to be there for your SICK brother, sick with the same thing that KILLED mom, not in some dingy apartment!" Nadia dramatically cried out, standing up with her little sister next to her dramatic self.
"Umiko, you ran away, like the fuckin' idiot you are. You didn't think about how this would affect anyone, and now your family is worried senseless. You barely can keep your fangs in your-" Shui cut himself off, clearly pissed.
Genos glanced to Umiko. She looked like she was about to cry with how much Shui was grilling into her. "I believe it's best you leave. All three of you. You're causing distress to Umiko, and I believe she can live on her own if she so chooses." The cyborg replied, putting a hand on Umiko's shoulder, trying to signal that he was going to do whatever possible to help.
"Well leave when that idiot decides to snap back to reality come home. She doesn't even know the first thing about herself!" Shui hissed back.
Genos didn't reply, only standing his ground. "Leave. For if you cause me to use lethal force to remove you from the premises..."
"I will not hesitate to eliminate you."
Umiko's eyes widened at Genos's threat. It felt more like a promise than a threat, actually. "Genos-" Umiko began.
"Umiko, pack your bag and get your shit together. And when we get back, I'm making SURE that this... whatever the fuck that tin man is- is never talking to you again." He said, standing up and by the door, walking out, shoving Genos out of the way with inhuman strength.
Umiko immediately rushed over to Genos, helping him up. "Umiko..." Marina softly spoke out, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Shui didn't mean his hurtful words. He's just... stressed, taking care of Afron."
"Really? Is that the case?" Umiko asked her. "To me it just seems that he's mad." She sniffled.
"He is! Incredibly! When he found out you ran he trashed his room to the point of needing to repair holes in his walls!" Nadia said, nodding along with her words as if they were fact.
Holes in the walls? From a guy that's easily six feet?
Umiko wasn't going back to K-City, not if he had anything to say about it. "I'm sorry... Nadia and Marine, was it? But I don't believe it's safe for Umiko to go back, considering what Nadia has spoke about Shui." Genos said, keeping his hand on Umiko's shoulder.
"We agree." Marina sighed. "So, I'm just gonna say that Umiko refused. and besides, I see you on the posters in the streets. I'm plenty sure that she'll be okay with you." Marina replied, nodding in reply.
"Nadia, ready to go?" Asked the doll-like girl to the primadonna. Nadia nodded in reply, standing up, taking one last chug of her still steaming-piping hot tea before rushing to Umiko to hug the girl. "Oh Umiko! We're going to miss you so- I'll send you your clothes to wear instead of those rags you call a tank top and shorts." Sobbed Nadia dramatically.
"Thank you, Nadia. I'll write more, okay?" Umiko replied, hugging Nadia back.
As the three girls said their goodbyes, Genos's hand relaxed slightly. The door shut, and Umiko let out the shakiest sigh of relief he had ever heard. "Goodness." She sighed, turning her back to the door. "I thought they would never leave, y'know?" She said.
Genos pulled Umiko into his arms. "It's alright." He said, stroking the back of her head.
Small sobs escaped her lips. "I am an idiot. I shouldn't have ran away, I should've been there to help-"
"Umiko, be silent. Those thoughts are not true. And besides, I won't let you go back to City K." He whispered.
"Okay." She breathed out. "I don't even know why I'm crying! He calls me an idiot all the time-"
"Calm down." Genos stopped her in her words, resting his cheek on her head. "It feels like I do this a lot, don't I?" He attempted to joke. "You do! I'm so sorry-" Umiko sobbed.
'Oh no, I made it worse.' Genos thought as his eyes widened. 'Crap. Okay, maybe giving her a little kiss will help her feel better? Or at least distract her enough?'
Genos pressed his lips to the side of her head, rubbing the small of her back. "It's fine. You have done nothing wrong. It's the Neanderthal that calls himself your brother who is the problem." Genos affirmed to Umiko, swaying side to side, giving her as many words of affirmation he could.
"I feel dumb." Umiko sighed, finally hugging Genos back.
'She must've calmed down a fair bit by now.' Genos thought to himself. "You're not dumb. You're plenty intelligent." He affirmed. Genos then picked her up by her waist, walking over to her futon, then sitting down on her futon, keeping Umiko on top of his lap. Umiko's back was pressed against his chest, one hand wrapped around her tummy, and one being held by her hand.
"I'm sorry for arguing with my siblings in front of you." She sighed. "Do not worry about it. He was instigating." He replied, giving her tiny kisses.
Umiko yawned sleepily, rubbing one of her eyes. "Man I hate crying. It makes me tired." She sighed, closing her eyes. "Okay then, please go to sleep. I'll be here." Genos softly spoke into her ear, taking the hand away from her tummy to her chin, tilting her head up to his own. He kissed her gently, her lips feeling heavenly against his own.
Blushing a little bit, he mumbled into her hair; "Sweet dreams, Umiko."
"Sweet dreams, Genos." Umiko whispered back as she fell asleep.
