A few days had passed since Saitama had found the two in that weird and awkward position he found them in.
Getting woken up in the lap of the guy you have a crush on is bad enough, but let it be by his roommate/teacher? Worst way to get woken up.
But still! She slept in his lap! That was enough to make her heart explode.
Umiko smiled to herself as she wiped away engine grease from the monkey wrench she was using.
The redhead backed away from the boat engine she was working on, closing the access hatch as she huffed in pride.
"Hey Goldfish!" Yelled a mechanic from a few feet down.
"Hey! My name is Umiko, jerk!" Umiko yelled from above, carefully climbing off the side of the boat.
"What's up, Mr. Cleric?" Umiko asked, rolling up her sleeves on her mechanic's uniform almost three sizes too big.
"How close are you to fixing the steering on that boat over there? I need to check if you are, as you're still shadowin'." Explained the middle aged man, the experienced mechanic, pointed up at the steering wheel.
"Oh, yeah! I finished it and hour ago. I'm working on the engine now. The starter belts are being weird. I think they may need to be replaced." Umiko nodded in reply.
"Alright then, I'll check that too. Good thing ya caught that, Goldfish." The man replied, climbing up the side of the larger boat, the same way Umiko had.
Umiko had quit her job at the convenience store recently due to an opening at a boat and auto-body repair shop. It had paid better and she could use it to hone her skills to perfection.
She had abandoned her "technical skills" a few months after her father had passed at sea. She couldn't really look at anything pertaining to her old man's profession.
But seeing the guy she has a(arguably the biggest) crush on, almost die two or three times, she felt like she wasn't sure if he would be able to keep going on. She wanted to help him.
So, she picked up a wrench and some abandoned boat parts, and started to fix and create.
That little flying device she made was only a one-off thing. Umiko tried, but she couldn't figure out how to replicate the flying device for the life of her.
Umiko adjusted her belt that prevented the crotch of her muted gray denim jumpsuit from sagging to her knees.
'I need to learn how to make sewing adjustments... or a cuter belt.' Umiko sighed, climbing up the side of the boat to converse with her 'mentor', to see if she did it properly.
"Yeah, you did it right. Surprised you paid attention to what I told you last time." Nodded Mr. Cleric.
"And the starter belts? Should I replace them?" Umiko inquired as she opened up the hatch which hid the engine.
"Hm... nah, it just needs sum lubricant. Go get sum from Markie over there." Mr. Cleric pointed to the break room, where 'Markie' was using said lubricant to attempt to get his locker key unstuck from its lock.
"God, did the idiot get his fuckin' key stuck ngain'? Goldfish, help him out." Sighed the man.
"My name is Umiko, Mr. Cleric." Umiko sighed, standing up.
Umiko made sure that the senior mechanic's back was turned, and she lept off the side of the boat, landing on the balls of her feet carefully, rolling to break her fall.
Umiko had been trying to use her "monster half" more in everyday scenarios. The redhead wouldn't admit it, but when she had 'saved' Genos a few weeks or so back, turning into her "true form" had taken a lot out of her.
