"ARE you okay?" Genos heard a warm voice say. He looked up from where he was incapacitated, curious as to who was speaking to him. There, he saw a girl, no older than he, probably sixteen at the oldest. She had a bike at her side, and her clothes were tattered in her sleeves and ankles, her old, dirty tennis shoes burned at the toe.

"I am well. My body is damaged. I sent a call to Dr. Kuseno to bring me back to his laboratory and repair me." Genos calmly stated.

The first thing he noticed about her was her hair. It was curly in some places, braided in others, and a bright blue curl on the right side of her bangs, which covered her forehead, and a little bit of her eyes. It was like a warm fire, a hearth, really. "Oh- my bad- can I... wait with you? The monster kinda ruined my errands for the day." The girl awkwardly laughed.

"I suppose. I don't mind you waiting with me." Genos said calmly as Umiko sat down next to him, her bike laid at her side. "What's your name?" She asked out of the blue. "I'm Umiko." She smiled.

There. Her smile. It was a little unnatural. She had a gap in-between her two front teeth, but yet also had slightly elongated canines. It was endearing, and nothing like his own perfectly straight teeth.

"My name is Genos." He replied, nodding a little in reply. "Why we're you in this area? It wasn't safe." Genos suddenly demanded, staring down into her ocean blue eyes.

"Well, uh, i was on my way to the grocery store on the corner of my street..."

Umiko didn't expect the boy who got beat to hell and back to be so cute, despite three of his limbs missing, his chest torn open, revealing all his circuitry and metal, and his left eye, along with some of his face, and his hair all messed up, she found him cute. She liked the neat way his blonde hair was spiked down, she liked the way his skin looked so clear, despite being dirty and grimey with monster blood and dirt.

She thought of herself as mad for thinking a cyborg was cute.

As Umiko finished explaining the series of events that led her to this situation, she finished it with a goofy, embarrassed giggle.

"What about you? What were you up to?" Umiko asked, her freckles cheeks tinted with an embarrassed pink.

"I was here on the count of the mysterious cattle genocides and local wildlife being drained of blood dry. I was here to see if a monster was behind this. I was correct, obviously." Genos stated, simply like it was fact, and he never had a shadow of a doubt.

'I wish I could talk like that.' She thought to herself, smiling as Genos rambled on, not needing to take a single breath. "But I see that you were mostly unaffected by the swarm. Why is that?" He asked her, staring at her with such an intensity that it made her melt a little on the inside.

"I uh... I actually don't know. I guess my blood tastes nasty?" She suggested, the awkwardness taking over her body.

"That is strange." He commented. He stared at her like he was psychoanalyzing her, down to the last hair on her head, and the last thought in her eyes, which was none.

"I like your boots." Umiko said out of the blue, blurting it out without second thought. "My boots?" Genos asked, bewildered.

"I-I mean- I like your boots! I think their cute- I mean-" Umiko blubbered, her hands waving around like a headless chicken running around.

"I like my boots too." Genos replied, cutting her off from any other idiotic sayings or ramblings.

There was a small silence between the two, that didn't feel uncomfortable or awkward. Just... nice, without worry, without care. Umiko didn't need to say anything, nor did he.

There was silence.

And they didn't mind one bit.
