26: Telling it to Laks won't hurt, right?

Sam's POV

I woke up still in Adhi's body, expecting that we would have switched back after yesterday's conversation. Here I am, sitting at the dining table, my mind drifting off to thoughts of Adhi.

Every time I think about him, a warmth spreads through me, making me feel more alive than ever. When I turn to see Laks, I notice the concern in her eyes as she observes me.

"You seem to be in a better mood lately," Laks remarked, a hint of curiosity in her tone. "What's got you so cheerful?"

I paused, my mind still on Adhi. "It's nothing really," I said with a small smile, trying to play it off. "Just... feeling more positive, I guess."

Laks raised an eyebrow, studying me. "You've been smiling a lot more since... well, since you came back home. It's like you're carrying a secret joy."

I shrugged, trying to downplay my feelings. "I suppose I'm just finding reasons to be happy." But Laks wasn't convinced. She leaned in closer, her eyes searching mine. "Is there something you're not telling me? You seem different, more... content."

A flutter of guilt washed over me. Laks didn't know about the switch, and I had no intention of revealing the truth. But I couldn't deny that every time I thought of Adhi, my heart skipped a beat, and a smile formed without me even realizing it.

"I just... met someone who's made a big difference in my life," I confessed, choosing my words carefully. "They've been really important to me lately."

Laks's eyes widened slightly, and a knowing smile spread across her face. "Ah, I see. It sounds like this person is quite special to you."

I nodded, feeling a mix of embarrassment and relief. "Yeah, they are."

Laks squealed with excitement and ran over to hug me. "I'm so happy for you, Anna! I can't wait to tell Mom and Dad about your girl!"

I widened my eyes and caught her before she could run off. "You can't say anything yet, please, Laks!" I pleaded my tone almost begging.

She looked at me, concerned, but finally agreed. "Alright, I won't say anything. But you better tell me everything soon!"

As she walked away, I felt a mix of relief, anxiety, and guilt. I shouldn't have said those things to her! I wasn't even thinking when I blurted out those words! How is Adhi going to handle this when we switch back?

"Maybe think before you speak?"

"Like that helps!" I mentally retorted. "We never think before we blurt out stuff when we're too caught up in our thoughts!"

Laks and I had just started a movie when my phone buzzed with a notification. At first, I ignored it, but the constant ringing was impossible to overlook. Laks groaned every time it went off, so I was finally forced to pick it up.

When I checked my phone, I saw it was Adhi with a flood of messages:

Adhi: Hey!
Adhi: Hello?
Adhi: U there?
Adhi: Oiiiii?
Adhi: Sammmmmmmmm!
...and about ten question marks in separate texts!

Seeing so many messages made me worried, so I got up quickly. "Be right back!" I said, but Laks groaned even louder. I quickly added, "Don't finish my popcorn!" which earned a shout from her, "Can't promise!" I laughed and stepped out to call Adhi, hoping everything was alright.

He picked up almost immediately, which was rare for him. "Hey, Adhi! Is everything okay?"

"Oh yeah, everything's great!" he replied, but then there was a long silence.

"You sounded urgent, which got me worried," I said, trying to figure out what was going on. Suddenly, I heard Nitya in the background, "Is he coming?"

Is who coming?

"Geez, Nitya, let him breathe for a sec," Adhi's voice came from a bit farther away.

Then he got back on the line, "Hey, yeah, get ready at 5! We planned something, and you're coming with us!"

We?

"Good to know that you two are getting along, but what are you guys planning?" I asked a bit both curious and confused.

"It's a surprise for you! It's something you'll like!" Adhi replied, and before I could ask more, he added, "Don't worry, I've spoken to your parents, so there's no problem!"

He emphasized the word your to let me know he really meant he spoke to my parents-the same ones who usually aren't too keen on their daughter going out so often. Adhi, being in my body, was completely pushing those boundaries!

"Okay, Adhi, you've got me curious. What should I wear?"

Adhi chuckled on the other end, "Just something comfortable. You'll see when you get there."

"Alright," I replied, still a bit skeptical but intrigued. "I'll see you at 5 then."

As I hung up, I couldn't help but wonder what Adhi and Nitya were planning. Knowing them, it could be anything from a simple outing to something completely unexpected. But whatever it was, they had put effort into it, and that thought warmed me.

I returned to the living room, where Laks was munching on my popcorn, looking far too pleased with herself. "So, what's the big deal?" she asked, not taking her eyes off the screen.

"Apparently, I have plans at 5," I said, trying to sound nonchalant, but I could feel the excitement bubbling up inside me.

Laks raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Plans? With whom?"

"Friends," I reply bluntly, grabbing a handful of popcorn from her. "They're planning something for me."

"Ooooh," Laks drawled, her tone full of playful suspicion. "Sounds like someone's got a special surprise coming their way!"

"Maybe," I said with a small smile, not giving her the satisfaction of seeing how much this whole thing was affecting me. "But I guess I'll have to wait and see."

Laks gave me a look that said she wasn't buying my calm act for a second. "Well, have fun with your mystery plans! And don't forget to tell me all about it later."

"Of course," I replied, feeling a bit of nervous anticipation. What could they be planning? And how was I going to handle being around Adhi, especially after everything that's happened between us?
