Adhi's POV:
I woke up to the gentle hum of the airplane, feeling a bit disoriented. The cabin lights were dimmed, and the soft murmurs of passengers filled the air. Glancing over, I was immediately drawn to Sam. She looked peaceful, her head resting against the window, a stray strand of hair falling across her face. I couldn't help but smile at how beautiful she looked, even in the midst of travel.
Wait, I'm seeing Sam! I looked at my hand and felt a wave of disbelief wash over me. We had switched back—oh my God, we switched back!
I looked back at Sam, a mix of relief and confusion flooding me. Had we really switched back? I gently nudged her shoulder, hoping to rouse her without startling her. "Hey, sleepyhead," I whispered, keeping my voice low. "Wake up."
Her eyelids fluttered, and she blinked a few times before focusing on me. "Adhi?" she mumbled, confusion evident in her voice. But as her gaze met mine, realization dawned on her. "Wait, we're back?"
I nodded, a grin spreading across my face. "Looks like it. We're in our own bodies again."
She sat up straighter, her expression shifting from sleepiness to excitement. "Oh my gosh, I can't believe it!" A playful smile broke across her face, and she leaned closer. "So, I'm not you anymore?"
"Definitely not," I chuckled, feeling a wave of warmth wash over me. "I think we've both had enough of that for a while."
"Thank goodness," she said, her laughter infectious. "I missed being me." I looked at her, she hugs herself, the weight of everything we'd experienced together settling in. "I missed you too, Sam. The last few days were incredible, but it felt a little... strange at times."
"Strange?" She raised an eyebrow, her playful nature returning. "You mean getting to live life as a girl wasn't amazing?" I laughed, shaking my head. "Let's just say it was a unique experience. I have newfound respect for everything you deal with daily."
She nudged my shoulder playfully. "Good! Now you understand the struggles." I looked into her eyes, a deeper understanding blossoming between us. "Yeah, and I appreciate you even more for it. You handle so much with such grace. I don't know how you do it."
Her smile softened, and she leaned back in her seat, crossing her arms. "Thanks, Adhi. That means a lot. But you know, it wasn't all bad. I learned a few things from being in your shoes too."
"Oh? Like what?" I asked, intrigued.
"For one, I realized just how oblivious you can be to certain things," she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "And that you really need to work on your wardrobe choices." I feigned shock. "Hey! My style is classic!"
She burst into laughter, and I couldn't help but join in. In that moment, I felt a connection that was stronger than ever. Our experiences had woven us together in a way I hadn't expected, and I could see the bond growing between us.
As we continued to chat, the airplane began its descent. I glanced out the window, the familiar landscape of home coming into view. The excitement of our trip lingered in the air, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between us—something deeper.
"Ready to face the world again?" I asked, turning my attention back to Sam, who was watching me with an expression that was both thoughtful and warm.
"Absolutely," she replied, her voice steady. But something suddenly changed. I nudged her, and she smiled at me, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. I didn't pry much, sensing that she was grappling with something unspoken.
As soon as we landed, we spotted Nitya waiting for us. Sam ran over and hugged her best friend tightly, a beaming smile on her face. God, she missed her so much! The first ten minutes of the car ride to my house were filled with Nitya's enthusiastic questions about our days and Sam's excited replies. But after that, the rest of the ride fell into a comfortable silence, punctuated only the sounds of the city around us.
