Detroit, MI:
"Aries is open!" Coach Al yelled across the court he had his clipboard tightly in his hands. He was clearly upset, and the whole gym knew it. They were 2 minutes into the second quarter, and they were down by 12. "Time out!" He yelled once the ball was passed to Olivia instead of Aries. The team hustled to huddle around the coach, but he was speechless seeing his old star walk into the gym. The gym rumbled in noise seeing Ambrose Marvel walk in, luckily his security kept fans back as he approached the huddle.
"Aries, what's yo numbers lookin like kid?" Ambrose asked, pulling his cartier shades off his face placing an arm over her shoulder.
"Down 12, and folks won't pass me the ball." Aries muttered.
"Well, you don't know how to pass the ball when you get it." Olivia rebuttals.
"I don't have to, I could bring us back by myself, I'm the best." Aries spat back.
"Ladies, one more word and I'll bench you both." Coach Al spoke up, and they both remained quiet. He held his hand out and Ambrose smiled shaking his hand, "Mr. Marvel himself."
"Coach Al, long time no see. You're doing girls' basketball now?" Ambrose asked.
"Yeah, I had a daughter not too long after you graduated, she loves the sport, right Olivia?" Coach Al asked, and Olivia rolled her eyes. "Anyways, stick around I would love to hear some feedback and tell me how being the best basketball player in the world is going for you."
"Of course, imma be over here with yo moms, aight Aries?" Ambrose said, and she nodded before he walked away security quickly surrounding him.
"Girl, you know Ambrose?" One of her teammates said.
Ambrose took a seat next to Isabella who was on the phone he tried hard not to eavesdrop, but he couldn't help it, "Ben this is not about to keep happening, I understand your job is what provides for us, but there won't be an us if you don't make time for your family." He heard her talk lowly; she looked over realizing Ambrose was sitting next to her. "I gotta go." She quickly hung the phone up, "You came..." She spoke as though she was shocked.
"I ain't never broke a promise to you before, why would I start now?" he asked, making her smile, he stood up as the girls got back on the court. The ball was passed to Aries, who immediately shot a deep 3 from the top of the key. "She sweet from the 3," He nodded impressed as he clapped his hands. Aries looked at the crowd and felt good about his approval, it made her want to go harder. She remembered looking over wishing her dad was there, but Ambrose was okay too. After all, he was her favorite basketball player. "So, everything alright?" Ambrose asked as Isabella stood up clapping. She never missed one of her daughter's basketball games. Ben junior who was 14 wasn't into basketball, he was more into football like his dad, and Dylan who was 10 loved to dance. They all were signed up for something to enhance their passions, but when they weren't enhancing their passions, they were supporting each other.
"Everything's fine, you?"
"Yeah, where are your sons?" He asked.
