Detroit, MI:

"They fired me today, like I expected." Ben grumbled as he slouched onto the couch. Isabella had come home from work to a messy house.

"Ma, can you please help me with my math?" Aries asked the minute her mother walked through the door.

"I need help with my essay, I said I called mom first when she came home." Junior said.

"Mom I can't sleep." Dylan chimed in from the top of the stairs.

"And we're hungry ma." Aries said, Isabella put her briefcase down on the coffee table.

"Alright babies, how about y'all grab all y'all stuff and meet me in the kitchen. I'll go over homework while I'm cooking." She announced, forcing a smile, all the kids rushed back upstairs, and her smile dropped. "You didn't feed the kids? Help them with their homework? They're supposed to be in bed by 10 Ben it's 9." She said picking up the beer cans from off the floor and coffee table.

"Babe don't nag me, I'm facing prison time, I don't have a job my life is over." He slurred as she took the empty beer cans into the kitchen tossing them into the trash.

"So, damn what, we still have kids, and they are watching you. You don't get to just give up on them, or me." She replied as she re-entered the living room.

"Just give me some time, I'm gone be good." He muttered picking up the remote turning the TV on. He turned it up not wanting to hear his wife's nagging, he had bigger issues going on and he did not want to hear that.

"Yeah okay." She said going back into the kitchen, she took deep breaths getting herself together before her children came down into the kitchen.

She managed to get dinner made and helped everyone with their homework. She even talked to them about their day and allowed them to stay up just until 10:30. "Mommy?" Dylan said as Isabella sat next to him with the book of fairytales she read to him every night before bed.

"Yes son?" She said, laying next to him in his race car bed.

"What's wrong with dad?"

"Dad's going through a rough time right now, but he's going to get through it because we are going to get him through it."

"Are you guys going to break up?"

"I don't know son, but I do know we both love you very much and that'll never change no matter if mommy and daddy break up." Isabella responded and he slightly smiled as she opened the book.

After reading Dylan his bedtime story and making sure he was asleep, she didn't get to bed until 1am she had to shower, check her emails, and check on Aries and Ben Jr before she did get into bed. For a minute there it had hurt her feelings that she was going to sleep alone tonight, but she shook it off and forced herself to go to sleep. She knew her marriage was failing, but still she wanted to try.

She woke up due to her phone ringing, she looked at the clock 6:15AM she sat up answering the phone, "Hello?"

"Hey Mrs. Smith, sorry to call so early. We got a murder."

"Text me the address, I'm on my way." She replied before disconnecting the call. She jumped up getting ready in 30 minutes. Once she made her way downstairs more beer cans were scattered across the living room, Ben was sprawled out on the couch snoring. She cleaned up the living room, made breakfast for the kids and put it away in the oven.
