Chapter 7

Clementines POV

I woke up to an empty bed, Violet was nowhere to be seen. I got up slowly with some pain but not too much. My body may finally be getting used to what I put it through. I walked outside to see a group of us standing around David. As I was walking I heard Vi yelling,

"How do you know Clementine?"

I could only hear David laugh as I finally got up to them.

"Clementine."

He snarled. Everyone turned and finally noticed I was standing there.

"David. Nice to see you're still an asshole. I SAVED you. Your whole family. Why? Why are you with Lily?"

"Lily. Is a genius. She has a whole town. She made a whole community. People live there. They survive. It's a family."

"Fuck your family. They're monsters. YOU'RE a monster."

"Call me whatever you want. I'm alive, cared for, doing well. More than you guys can say." I couldn't contain my anger anymore. I walked up to the tied up man and punched him as hard as I could.

"Shut your fucking mouth."

David laughed.

"Where is Lily hiding?"

"She's at the Delta where you all belong. But thanks to YOU she's in rough shape. We're all hoping she pulls through."

It was my turn to laugh now,

"I'm hoping she doesn't."

"Well you should because if she doesn't I'm in charge then, and I'm a lot worse than Lily is."

I stopped for a minute and just stared at the man. I grabbed my arm in the same area he branded me before.

"You had control of me once. It will not happen again."

I spit on his face and leaned in closer.

"Now. Tell me where this Delta is. Or I won't be peaceful when I find it myself."

During this threat I remembered the entire group of children behind me. But I couldn't face them right now. Not while David was right in front of me.

"Tell me David."

"I could. But maybe I won't. Although Javi, Kate, and Gabe will be really happy to see you."

I froze, the only word I could spit out was, "What?!"

"They're all happy. Surviving. In the Delta."

"NO! You're lying!"

"I'm not Clem. They're happy. You all can be too."

"One more chance David. Tell me where it is or so help me I will blow it up."

"I will not say a word. However harm me and you won't live to see another day. The Delta knows where I am. Lily sent me here. If I don't return by tonight they'll send all their soldiers. They'll kill all of you, taking none. Or you let me go home tonight and I'll tell the people you used to know that you're alive. That way when we come back to capture you all they may even decide to spare you, because right now the entire city wants you dead. They want to torture you and let you turn. But if you let me go I can change that. Whether it be a merciful death or living I don't know just yet. But it at least saves the rest of your people."

I was so filled with rage that I punched him again and then dragged him to the gate.

"Open it."

"Clem?"

"Open. The. Damn. Gate."

Willy nodded and opened the gate slowly. I dragged David out and into the words where I untied him.

"Go. If you or anyone else comes back I will not hesitate to kill you all."

"You made the right decision Clem. We'll be seeing you soon."

"No you won't. Don't try to come back."

I kept my gun trained on him until he left back into the direction of the Delta. I slowly walked back into the school, everyone's eyes on me as I walked through the gate.

"Clem?"

"Clementine?"

"Hey are you okay?"

"Babe?"

I heard everyone calling my name or asking me questions but I didn't answer them, I couldn't. David coming back and saying all the people I knew were still alive and on the wrong side. I couldn't handle it. I didn't know what to do so I just kept walking until I reached the office where I threw the chair into the wall. I yelled not caring who could hear me as I slumped onto the floor resting my back against the desk. I brought my knees up to my chest and just unleashed all the anger I had in tears as I sat there and cried knees to my forehead. I heard the door creak open but I didn't look up. I didn't want to see anyone.

"Clem..?"

I heard a soft voice say. It was Violet but I didn't look up. I couldn't stop crying. I felt her sit down next to me and wrap her arms around me.

"You don't have to say anything, but I'm sorry. We knew he would bring up bad memories for you so we wanted to get the information out of him and get him out of here before you woke up. That way you didn't have to hear any of that."

I looked up at her tears still filling my eyes. "No. It's..it's not your fault. He just...he caused me so much pain and I did everything I could to help those people three years ago. I thought they were safe. Still in Richmond. They're not, they're with Lily and it hurts worse than I could ever have imagined. They're going to come back. They want to capture you all and murder me. We have to strike first. We have to fight them before they can't get the jump on us again." Violet nodded and just held me tighter. She rested her head on my shoulder.

"Let's make a plan then babe. We'll get them. I won't let them hurt you or us. Ever again."

I smiled at her as she smiled at me. She leaned in slightly and connected our lips together. I relaxed into the kiss and when we finally had to pull away from it for oxygen.

"I love you."

My eyes widened as I realized I finally admitted I loved her. Violet was smiling ear to ear,

"I love you too Clem."

I hugged her and we walked down to the courtyard where everyone was sitting around one of the tables waiting for us. "Sorry for snapping everyone. I just couldn't deal with that."

"Don't worry Clem we get it. It's hard."

"We have to attack the Delta. We have to get them first."

The group looked around at each other and then started to cheer in favor of my idea. I was smiling from ear to ear wondering how the hell we were going to pull this off.
