Chapter 22

Clementine's POV

After another hour and a half I felt the boat start to slow and it shook as we docked.

"YO NEWBIES!"

A guard walked into the holding hall.

"We're here."

A trio of guards came to each cell to tie each of our arms back and grouped us together to walk us outside. I get to see what this Delta really is. We were led through the lower decks of the boats and down the ramp to the outside. We were met with large walls and a huge gate guarded by teams of two. The gate opened and we were walked inside to see a massive community. There were houses that I could tell were built by these peoples hands, there were farms, places to gather. The people here looked happy and the walls extended multiple miles. The place was huge, but I wondered if the people here knew how their military handled things.

"Holy shit."

"Quiet back there."

"Sorry."

We kept walking while being stared at until we reached a large building in the back.

"Here's where you're going to be searched, documented, and then taken to where you'll be living. We're working on housing right now so you'll be staying together in a dorm style building which I guess you all are used to."

We were all searched, added to their system, and rechained.

"We'll unlock your restraints once we get to your housing."

We walked to a far back corner where there was a building that looked like a taller version of our dorm building back at the school. We walked up stairs to the fourth floor.

"Here is your guys' floor. First door on the right here is for Louis and Omar. First on the left is for AJ and Tenn. Then next on the right is Clementine and Violet. Finally on the left is Ruby and Aasim. Willy, you will live by yourself in the room next to Ruby and Aasim on the left. It's too late for food for you all tonight so I will have someone bring some rations to you guys. There's nothing left for tonight, but tomorrow morning you will be gathered and given assignments to complete. At the end of this hall there is a living room where you can gather and the food will be dropped off there and to the right of there is the bathrooms. Goodnight and welcome to the Delta."

The soldier had her sidekicks unlock our restraints and we were set free.

"Meeting now. Common room."

Everyone nodded and we all walked together to the end of the hall.

"Guys. Listen. You're not going to like this, but we have to accept our jobs and work for them. Not forever but we need to learn routes and escape plans. We need to build relationships and get people with us, those who want to leave. Everyday after our jobs, we'll meet here and discuss what has happened that day and what we figured out about this place. Then once we were trusted enough we kill the people in charge and burn this place to the ground. But we need to be quiet and discreet. You never know who or what's listening."

"You're right Clem I don't like this, but this is exactly what we need to do. Your plan summed it up perfectly."

"You all already know they hate me, so I assume my life here will be awful. However you guys need to make friends and make a good life until I can get us out."

"I'm going to hate every second of this."

"Me too."

"Food."

A man appeared at the entrance of the common room. Holding a tray full of bread and water.

"There was no dinner left so this is some rations. It's not much but should hold you till breakfast. Someone will come retrieve you at dawn to give you your job assignments. You will then eat breakfast and go to work."
