Chapter 024

Logan's point of view

Two and a half weeks since I buried my mom and my aunt, courtesy of the Alpha King's feat. He's taken away much of the things I love and adore.

But not anymore.

For the past few days I've trained myself better to operate my abilities, I could cast mind illusions now and do so much more. I believe myself to be ready to go for what's mine.

My sister was still around and yet to return back to the city, she spent most of her days convincing me to lay off my plans to target the Alpha King or try saving Myra, but all to no avail. I was adamant and stubborn about it.

I was in my office going over some pack related issues when the door opened and my sister came in with my father. I heaved a groan at the sight of their presence, I could really use a day off without their constant pester to change my already made-up mind.

I'm getting Myra back, even if it means going after the Alpha King. Simple as that. They need to fucking accept that fact.

"Great, another pep talk?" I rolled my eyes as I set aside the files scattered on my desk. There was so much to regulate and deal with in this pack, I need to sort them all out for my father to carry out before I depart.

"Yes because believe it or not, I care about you and I don't want to lose you like I lost your mother," my father retorted, his steps sluggish as they approach me.

"I mean you're this determined for someone that might not be worth it even." My sister scoffed.

"No! That's the one thing I don't want to hear, because she's so worth it. She is my mate and-"

"And you rejected her. And now she's mated to another, not any other but the Alpha King. The Alpha King who murdered your mother because she abused his mate, and then murdered your aunt because you were snooping around his head. How guy you haven't figure this out yet? This is suicide, suicide in it merciless mercy!" She was furious, but that deterred me the least.

"I've said this over and over before, but I'm going to repeat myself now. Really do I always have to repeat myself?"

"I don't want you repeating yourself, Logan. I want you to know that what you're planning to do or about to do is a suicide mission, I need you to acknowledge that you're putting yourself in danger. Oh and spare me the you owe and love her bullshit, I'm sick of it already because you don't, fuck you don't!" She hissed, fury smeared all over her face.

"Okay," I said. I'm done arguing with her or anybody.

"You can't just love someone like that or owe someone, especially if the someone in talk was the reason your mother and aunt got killed. Logan please just let her go, please Logan I'm begging you." Her voice softened into a pleading tone, she closed the distance separating us in a swift as she grabbed my hands in hers.

"You know after dad, you're the only one I have left. I already lost mom and our aunt, please I don't want to lose you, please!" Liquid bubbled into her orbs and rolled a line down her cheeks.

I scoffed inwardly. Emotional manipulation. I know it too well.

I remove my hands from hers and used it to cup both her cheeks, "You're not going to lose me, I promise you that," I told her, and helped wipe off the tears staining her face.

"How did you even love her, I thought you love Deena and she loves you too. Weren't you two suppose to end up together?"

"You know Deena and I are just friends, she's literally the only one in support of me going after Myra," I replied as I pushed back on my chair. I've had enough of their chastisement and could use a breath of fresh air.

Today is going to be my last day here in this pack, and I'd rather spend it solemnly than my family's unwanted lecture. I'm leaving for the capital tomorrow, my stuffs are already packed.

I'm going for Myra tomorrow, and there's no guess on how long it might take me to retrieve Myra but I hope she'll be safe and sound till I come for her.

"If you both will excuse me, I'm out of here." I proceed towards the exit.

"Friends, Logan you can't just say that. Deena has been in love with you for years, how could you not notice and just think she's your friend. Did she not tell you she met her mate?" Lucy, my sister wouldn't just let me be as she rambled on behind me until a statement of hers has me halting and turning around.

"Deena met her mate?" I quested her validation and she nodded, quite sure of her words.

"She met him in the city, he's also Alpha just like you but operates his pack differently. He's more than an Alpha actually, he's a CEO to one of the biggest companies in the city and was mated to Deena, you might know him even, Alpha Dean of the GreenStone Pack. She denied the fellow of their bond because she doesn't want to jeopardize her future with you. She thought she was gonna be your chosen mate as you would chose her to be yours after you've gotten coronated. So I'm surprised by her supporting you, there's no way better I'm believing that," she finished her explanation and I could only stare in silence.

I'm Deena's best friend so why did she keep it from me that she met her mate and rejected him. Alpha Dean of all people, how could she do that for me?

I didn't bother engaging Lucy anymore and instead went to look for Deena, she's got some explaining to do.

Took me some minutes, but I was able to trace her down to the field where she's seated on the bare ground all alone with her thoughts.

"Deena," I called.

Her head whirled to my direction and a smile touched her face. "Where've you been since? I've got some things to tell you, come here," she beckoned at the space beside her.

I marched over to her with the assumption that she might want to tell me now the things I found out from Lucy.

"So I've been thinking and I believe I should go with you to the capital, it's gonna be too dangerous there and as your beta and best friend. My first priority is to make sure you're safe and okay. How does that sound? And before you say no-"

"Deena you met your mate and rejected him?" I butted into her speech, unable to hold it in any longer.

Her expression turned sour instantly, and her face paled as she looked away from me.

"Deena!-"

"It doesn't matter anymore. I already rejected him and he's moved on with his life. This is not your fault please I need you to know that, this is my fault for being delusional. If you love Myra, and if it's her you truly love then I'm willing to do anything to help you bring her back."

"I- Deena-" I didn't know what to say. The whole thing is still like a shock to me.

"Listen can we please just forget about it and focus more on what's on ground? Let's pretend that never happened okay? Pleaseeeee." She morphed a pleading face.

"Okay," I responded in the softest voice.

"Great!" She beamed.

Something about this was just off, I couldn't pin point what but I can feel it, and I'm sure of it.

Author's Note: Is Deena really that good of a friend or she has an agenda? Well I can't wait for us to find out. Thanks for the support.
