Summa cum laude means with the highest honor

-

Today was the day. His graduation. The one he had been waiting three agonising years for.

The day he would see his closest friends and his (hopefully) soon to be lover all in one place all at the same time.

“Ah! There is my little graduate!” Yuqi beamed.

Soyeon chuckled, following behind her lover.

“Is everyone here?” Felix asked, hugging the two women.

“Almost, we think hyunjin might be running a little late,” Soyeon told him.

   The brunet bit his lip.

“Felix, I am sure he will be here. He promised you,” Yuqi assured.

   Soyeon nodded, agreeing.

  “I hope,”

“Let's talk about the after party, Chan rented out a restaurant/ bar for our Summa cum laude graduate and everyone got gifts that we will give to you at dinner,” Soyeon said.

“You guys didn't have to,” Felix stated.

“Oh, shush we wanted to. Now we have to go get seated, we will save a seat for Hyunjin. You got to get backstage and don't worry about a thing,” Yuqi stated with a sweet smile.

Felix nodded, “I'll see you guys out there,”

The two nodded and waved Felix off.

“Yuqi, what if he doesn't come?” Soyeon asked.

“Then he better have a damn good explanation, because barring him being in the hospital or there being a sudden family death he shouldn't miss this,” the younger stated.

“Let's get out there, we don't want to miss it,”

Yuqi was right, he shouldn't miss it.

-

As Felix glanced around on stage he smiled seeing all his friends and his sisters, but his heart fell not seeing Hyunjin anywhere in the crowd.

The thought of Hyunjin not being there ate away at him for the whole ceremony. Even as he walked up to his friends and sisters who looked worried he hoped that he would see Hyunjin, but he didn't.

   “Where's Hyunjin?” He questioned.

“Uh, he's not here,” Changbin answered.

  Felix took a deep breath.

“I'm sorry, Lix,” Miyeon said sympathetically.

“Are you sure he didn't come?”

  Jisung nodded.

Felix bit his lip, “And he sent no-one a message or called?”

“He didn't, I'm sorry, lix,” Chan said softly.

The younger shook his head with pursed lips, “It is fine… he didn't need to be here anyway,”

But it wasn't fine. None of it was fine.

Yuqi pursed her lips and took a breath, “Excuse me for a moment,” she said softly.

The blonde walked away, she was pissed. Hyunjin broke his promise and didn't even bother to message anyone.

Opening her bag, she pulled out her phone and dialed the other's number.

It going to voicemail almost immediately.

“I have been mad at plenty of people, mostly people Felix has dated, yet you didn't date him and here I am pissed beyond belief at you.

Hyunjin, you better a good fucking reason to why you missed his graduation! You promised him you'd be here and your not, so I hope your reason for breaking that promise is good or he'll never forgive you,”

Yuqi hung up and shoved her phone in her bag.

“Everyone is heading to the restaurant,”

The blonde sighed, “Let me guess everyone else was too scared to come tell me?”

Chan chuckled, “Just a little, you can be scary when angry, especially when it comes to Felix,”

“Chan, I swear if he doesn't have a good reason as to why he missed this…” Yuqi trailed off.

“For as long as I've known Hyunjin. He would have never broken a promise on purpose, there was a reason and it was a good one,” Chan said.

“I hope you are right, because I can't see Felix hurt again,”

Yeah, Chan hoped he was right too.

   -

Felix sighed as he took another drink of his wine. Gifts had been given out and dinner was served, so now everyone was just talking about random things, but Felix was stuck on Hyunjin.

“Lix, are you okay?” Yuqi asked.

“Hm? Yeah, I think I just need some air,”

“I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation as to why he isn't here. There might have been an delay in his flight or something,”

Felix took a breath and set his drink down, “I'm sure there is… uhm, I'll be back in a minute,” he said

    Yuqi nodded.

Felix left the bar and sighed.

Pulling out his phone, he clicked on Hyunjin's number.

“Your call has been forwarded to an automated voice messaging system, please leave your message after the beep,”

The brunet took a deep breath, “Hey, Hyun, I don't know what you are doing or if you are on a plane or something, but you missed my graduation.

And that sucks because I really wanted you to be here. You are my best friend and I wanted my best friend here like he promised. Just text me or something so I know you're okay,”

Felix hung up and bit his lip. He clicked on Instagram, maybe the older had posted something.

Once his feed loaded his heart broke.

   That was today.

Hyune.00 just proposed to the love of my life today

Felix swiped through the pictures a little piece of his breaking as he looked at them. There was something in the background of the last one that caught his eye.

   The stupid fairy figurine.

The fairy figurine from nearly six years ago that Hyunjin told Felix looked like him.

The fairy figurine that Hyunjin kept by his bedside all through his last year of university.

That stupid fairy figurine was on the mantle behind them.
