Asher watched the girl leaving as he slowly followed her. She has not raised her head for once since she left school and now he could understand how she could bump into Anita and so he decided to watch out for her and protect her from bumping into another person. He has this feeling that the girl was hiding something and also, he still doesn’t understand the meaning of her nickname: Psychic, why would anyone choose that as a nickname?
The walk was long and he couldn’t believe that she walked like that every day to and fro from school, isn’t it tiring for her? And besides, why doesn’t she have a car? Almost everyone in the school has a car and those who doesn’t, follows the school bus so why don’t she? Why does she prefer walking? Could it be that she loved stalling for time?
So many questions and so little answer, he had spent the whole lunch period sitting beside her and while it was not as calm as it was that night in the woods, he could still feel that her presence brought him calm, why is that? She is just a human, how can she be the calm to his storm? So many things he wants to find out about the girl but sadly, she wasn’t a talker and it was even worse now in school. At least, that night in the party, she was dancing and smiling, getting into the fun but in school, she was mostly on her own, studying and it wasn’t helping if he noticed that everyone was avoiding her. He knew he can easily get his answers by just compelling the girl and getting her to tell him whatever he wanted to know, but for some reason, he doesn’t want to work through that way, he wanted her to tell him everything on her own accord, he wants to protect her privacy for her, something he was not very fond of giving people as long as his interest was piqued.
When the streets ended, he has expected her to arrive at her destination, but instead, she kept on walking. He paused, she was heading towards the woods, why? He frowned, not understanding where she could be going but still followed her. Eventually, right before the woods, there was a bungalow and she started walking towards it. Hold on, she lives there? She lives just by the woods? Why would she live so close to the woods, aren’t her parents afraid of the tales told about the woods? Besides, this way, they are easy targets to nightwalkers.
He was dissatisfied but he had to still follow her, he needs to learn even if a little more about her. Summoning his demon powers, he hid himself in plain sight and walked behind her. He sensed her stiffen and stopped and for the first time since they left school, she raised her head. He watched her, wanting to know what will happen when she suddenly turned and looked right at him. If not that he tested his powers and see that it was still there, he would have thought she could see him. But he knew it was impossible, she can never see him, at most, she would sense him like she did that night. But is that the case? Can she sense him?
He studied her face, she didn’t look panicked and rather, she turned and continued on her walk. Asher waited, contemplating on whether to continue following her or just leaving and coming back. At the end, he decided he would leave, now he knows where she lives, finding her would be easy this time and so, sending a message to Anita through the mind link, he teleported back home.
Naomi gasped and turned sharply, it was gone, that presence was gone. What could it mean? She had been shocked witless when she suddenly felt that ubiquitous presence like that night but remembering the sliver fur wolf, she had thought it had come to see her and had continued going home, no longer afraid like she was that night and just when she thought the presence would follow her home, it just…vanished.
She felt this hollow feeling inside and stood staring at the spot she knew the presence had been, she knew she had missed that wolf but she never expected to long for it. Like for crying out loud, how can she tell people that she was longing for a wolf? A wolf as big and tall as a man even standing on all four. She would not just sound crazy but people might think that she longs for death instead.

“Asher, is that you?” Aliyah called as soon as she felt someone in the room opposite her. She walked quickly to it and knocked, “Asher, dear?” she called softly before pushing open the door only to bump straight into a rock. “Aw,” she groaned and rubbed her nose, “did you want to break my nose, boy?” she glanced up at the boy in front of her with furrowed brows.
“Sorry mom,” Asher apologized and leaned down to kiss her head, “I heard you calling and was coming to open the door for you but I didn’t expect you to suddenly open it.”
“You took so long to answer,” Aliyah replied, her deep brown hair in beach wave, cascading down her shoulders. Her bright blue eyes stared at her son and she raised an eyebrow, “what is it? You look worried.”
“I’m okay,” he shrugged, “where is dad?”
“In the throne room, he is having meeting with the three clans’ leaders and alphas. Is there a problem?”
“I just want to ask him something,” he smiled softly and they both walked out of his room, “oh yes, when is Aunt Irene and Uncle Rasmus returning from their vacation?”
“Those two,” Aliyah rolled her eyes, “I thought that it was going to happen soon but Irene had sent a message that they have gotten the lead of the ingredient she needed and they won’t be returning till she finds it.”
Asher sighed, “you think preparing that potion would help them?”
At this, the nonchalant look in Aliyah’s eyes turned sad, “she really wants to have a child, I pray it works for them. They have been trying for twenty-four years now, they deserve a little bit of miracle.”
Asher nodded, “don’t worry mom, she is the best witch I know and if she said it will work, then it will work,” he smiled and caressed her cheek.
Aliyah returned the smile and leaned into his touch, “yes, it will.”
“I will go see dad now, I will see you later, mom.”
“Will you be home for dinner?” Aliyah asked as he walked off in quick strides.
“I don’t think so, but I will think of you,” he replied as he vanished down the hallway.
It didn’t take him long to find the throne room and he walked inside, greeting the council leaders, demon rulers and alphas in the room respectively.
“Prince Asher, we were not expecting to see you today,” one of the alphas said with a smile.
“I’m sorry, I came back in a jiffy to ask my dad about something and I am truly sorry if I am interrupting your meeting with the king,” he cupped his hands and bowed respectively.
“It’s okay, my prince,” a council leader smiled. “Say, we heard you are investigating the sudden appearance of an unknown wolves in the human realm, what have you gotten so far?”
“Alpha Sean of the Blue Moon pack’s daughter, Anita, and I have been searching around but we have not been able to meet them face to face and can only follow their trail. Be rest assured, council leader that if we have something concrete, I will be sure to call a meeting or travel pack by pack, council by council and kingdom by kingdom to relay my findings.”
“Thank you so much, my prince, we will be expecting your news. The last thing we would want is an unknown pack showing up and ruining the peace we have had for the past twenty-five years,” Alpha Damien said.
“The pleasure is mine, High Alpha,” Asher smiled before turning to his father who was seated on his throne like the king he is. He cupped his hands and bowed, “my king,” he greeted.
Edward raised an eyebrow, demanding to know what he wanted to ask.
“I will like to stay in the human realm for some more time. If I get a house there, it would make it easier to trail the unknown wolves rather than running to and fro the woods. I have come to seek for the king’s permission to temporarily reside in the human realm.”
“Have you spoken to your mother about this?” Edward asked.
Asher bit his lip and shook his head, “not yet, father.”
“Then do you want me to lose my head?” he asked and everyone in the room laughed. Edward was a fearsome king whose strength was unrivaled but he had only one weakness, he was really afraid of his wife. Aliyah had grown to be a beloved queen but, in the kingdom, her word is the final say that even a man as mighty as Edward would rush to obey just so she wouldn’t be offended. Everyone knows the King dotes on his wife and he never tries to hide it.
“Of course not father, but, I was hoping you would tell her yourself.”
“Oh, no, no,” Edward shook his head, “tell her first, if she gives her consent, you know where the treasury is. You can leave now,” and with that, he waved him off and Asher could do nothing but leave. Here he was thinking that he could easily avoid his mother by taking his father’s permission, who would have expected that the damned man would send him right back to her?
